Graduate School Scholarships
The Graduate School will award a combination of fellowships and merit scholarships each academic year to an elite selection of master's and doctoral students who show the potential to make substantive contributions to their discipline. The Graduate School also offers targeted funding to support graduate students with childcare and dependent care responsibilities. The Graduate Dean's fellowships are limited to incoming domestic and international doctoral students in any approved University of Nevada, Reno doctoral program (Ph.D. or doctorate). There are typically eight (8) one-year fellowships in the amount of $50,000 per academic year ($25,000 per semester, paid out in two installments of $12,500). Graduate Dean's merit scholarships are open to both domestic and international master's and doctoral students in any approved University of Nevada, Reno graduate program (Ph.D., doctorate, MFA or master's). For spring nomination deadlines, only incoming graduate students are eligible. For the fall nomination deadline, both incoming and currently enrolled graduate students are eligible, but preference will be given to incoming students in doctoral programs. The Graduate Dean’s Parent Success Grant provides financial support to graduate students with dependents to help offset expenses related to childcare and dependent care while pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Nevada, Reno. This award is open to all domestic and international graduate students enrolled in at least five graduate credits in an eligible master’s or doctoral program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the semester they apply for the scholarship. Students enrolled in 5 credits are eligible for up to $600; students enrolled in at least 6 credits are eligible for up to $1,200.
Dean's Scholarship: Undergraduate
The Dean's Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship awarded to a group of selected students for a maximum of either up to two (2) or four (4) consecutive semesters. The academic year begins with the fall semester, followed by the winter term, followed by the spring semester and concluding with summer terms. The student must maintain a minimum 3.20 cumulative GPA. The GPA used for this review is not rounded. Therefore, a 3.199 does not equal a 3.20 cumulative GPA. In the event the student fails to maintain a 3.20 cumulative GPA, the student will have one probationary semester to raise their GPA. The student may take courses on campus during the winter and summer terms to bring up their cumulative GPA, but the scholarship does not cover the cost of winter and summer courses. If the scholarship was canceled, and the student subsequently raises their GPA to a 3.20 or higher, the student may submit a request for reinstatement of the scholarship. The student must successfully complete 30 credits per academic year. Although a student may retake courses under the University's repeat policy, credits earned for a repeated course may only be counted once toward the annual 30 credit requirement. Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB) and other pre-college credits are not counted towards the 30 credit requirement. The student may take courses on or off-campus during the winter and summer terms to make up any necessary credits, but the scholarship does not cover the cost of these courses. The academic year is defined as beginning with the fall semester, followed by the winter term, followed by the spring semester and concludes with the summer terms. These scholarships may not be combined with one another. The total of all aid a student receives cannot exceed the cost of attendance. Should a student receive funds above the cost of attendance, as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA), their Dean’s Scholarship will be reduced. The Dean's Scholarship shall not exceed $1,500 for one year (non-renewable), or $4,500 for each of the first two years, consistent with the information contained in the student's award letter. The Dean's Scholarship is a merit award. Refunds will not be available until the student has registered for a minimum of 12 credits (waitlisted courses do not count), and all university charges incurred on their student account have been paid. Each academic year, OSFA will notify the student of the type(s) of scholarships they are receiving and the amount disbursed from each account fund. OSFA reserves the right to modify financial assistance at any time. A student who fully withdraws and receives a refund for tuition, mandatory fees, room or board may have their scholarship adjusted during the semester of the withdrawal. If a student plans to participate in a university-sponsored Study Abroad Program, Co-op or any other non-standard academic program, they must obtain prior approval from their program advisor and submit that approval to OSFA. With prior approval, the student may receive the Dean’s Scholarship during the university-sponsored Study Abroad Program. For approved Co-op programs, the student may defer receipt of the Dean’s Scholarship. Scholarship and grant awards that a student receives for tuition and university-wide mandatory fees are tax-free. Scholarship money that a student receives for books, supplies, equipment and other fees may be tax-free if they are required of all students in the course. Scholarship money received for room and board is considered taxable income. This is a general statement of the tax rules. The student's own tax liability may vary depending on their personal situation.

John E. and May B. Dean's Tuition Scholarships
John E. and May B. Dean's Tuition Scholarships are a very limited number of tuition scholarships awarded by the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences Office of Graduate Studies, typically for the final term of graduate studies. The primary criteria for such awards are financial need and academic achievement. Students with TA, TF, GSA, GSR, PROVISIONAL and SPECIAL graduate status are not eligible for these funds. Receiving TA, TF, GSA, or GSR support voids Dean's Tuition Scholarship. These scholarships cannot be provided for beginning students. Students who received a Dean's Tuition Scholarship previously are ineligible to receive it again except under special circumstances as discussed with the Graduate Studies Office. Priority is given to students who have exhausted all University of Pittsburgh and personal resources and who are required to be registered in order to receive a degree from the Dietrich School. This is a TUITION-ONLY SCHOLARSHIP; students are responsible for any other required fees. In addition to completed applications, a letter of recommendation from the student's advisor is required in order to be considered for this scholarship.
TA/TF/GSA Federal Work Study Program
The TA/TF/GSA Federal Work Study Program provides funds to enable the University of Pittsburgh to recover part of the stipends paid to some TA/TF/GSAs who are eligible under federal guidelines. Eligibility does not affect the student's current duties, future support, or financial status. The funds recovered for eligible students are used in two ways: (1) to support the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences programs that benefit graduate students generally, and (2) to provide supplemental support directly to the eligible student. Eligible students receive $500 for travel or research related expenses during the next fiscal year. The Council of Graduate Schools has developed GradSense, a unique online education platform that provides students with financial information about a range of topics including the value of pursuing an advanced degree.
Scholarship Renewal and Eligibility Criteria
Scholarships are subject to specific renewal and eligibility criteria from year to year. It is your obligation to review, understand and meet the renewal and eligibility criteria standards associated with your merit-based scholarship award(s). The following scholarships are awarded for four years of undergraduate study with the exception of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Scholarship, which is awarded for two years of undergraduate study. » Renewal eligibility: enrolled at least 12 degree credits per semester, and complete 24 degree credits with grade point average of 3.25 or better each year of enrollment. Students must also be in good standing at the Honors College including service requirements, courses, and judicial standing. Your Presidential Scholarship is contingent upon your participation and residence in the Honors College for your first year of enrollment. You may live anywhere in University-owned housing for your second year of enrollment. Presidential Scholars are guaranteed on-campus housing for four years.

TH Bell (Terrell H. Bell) Scholarship

The appeal process provides an opportunity for students to explain extenuating circumstances that contributed to missed deadlines or failure to meet GPA requirements. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) states that undocumented students attending institutions of higher education in the state of Utah are required to pay out-of-state tuition.
