LinkedIn Learning: Empowering Continuous Professional Development

LinkedIn Learning is an online educational platform offering a vast library of video courses taught by industry experts. It focuses on developing skills in software, creative fields, and business. It aims to provide accessible, on-demand learning experiences.

A Brief History

Originally, LinkedIn Learning started as Lynda.com, an online education company founded by Lynda Weinman. Lynda.com gained prominence by offering a wide range of courses. In 2013, Lynda.com secured \$103 million in funding. Before online education was as mainstream as it is now, Lynda.com was already educating online. Further investment of \$186 million occurred. LinkedIn acquired Lynda.com in 2015 for \$1.5 billion. Subsequently, Microsoft acquired LinkedIn in 2016.

Complementary Systems

LinkedIn Learning complements other learning systems but has different purposes.

Account Management

Users may choose to keep their personal account and transfer activity between the accounts. If a user is no longer employed, their account will be deactivated.

Accreditation and Certification

For some courses, like NASBA courses, learners must watch all videos and earn at least 70% on the exam at the end of the course to earn credits. For all other programs, the learner must simply watch all the videos. Users must complete the course to earn credits for it. Partial credits are not awarded for incomplete courses.
