Navigating the UNM Fall Semester: A Comprehensive Guide

The University of New Mexico (UNM) provides resources and information to help students navigate the Fall semester successfully. This guide compiles key details about course delivery methods, important dates, and deadlines.

Understanding Course Delivery Methods

UNM employs various instructional methods to cater to diverse learning preferences and program requirements. It's crucial to understand these methods to plan your semester effectively. The modalities are:

  • 100% Face-to-Face: In this traditional format, all course components take place in person and on campus. This is common for small classes or seminars, art classes, studio work, labs, internships, clinics, and other skills-based courses. Check the schedule for specific classroom locations and times.
  • Hybrid: Hybrid courses combine in-person meetings with remote sessions at scheduled times. Instructors might organize successive in-person meetings with subgroups of students. Remote meetings may occur via Zoom, Teams, or other platforms. This format is often used for classes or seminars, discussion-based courses, inquiry- or project-based classes, and large classes where scheduled class times can be used for active learning in smaller groups, as well as certain lab, studio, internship, or skills-based classes. Consult the schedule for classroom locations, times, and remote scheduled times. Access the course on UNMLearn (or the platform designated by the instructor) for remote meetings at the specified times.
  • Online MAX: These courses are delivered entirely online. Some may require regularly scheduled online meeting times, while others may not. Check the Schedule of Classes for any required online meeting times and log in to the course on UNMLearn (or the platform designated by the instructor) to complete coursework.

Essential Tools for Schedule Planning

UNM provides tools to assist students in constructing their ideal schedules.

  • College Scheduler: Use this tool to create your ideal schedule.
  • Schedule of Classes Course locations are being updated in the Schedule of Classes, on an ongoing basis, with additional directional information. Review your schedules carefully prior to the start of classes because some classes will have to move from their usual modality and locations to different rooms.
  • Quick View: A quick view of the schedule of classes that is only updated every 24 hours.
