Navigating MSU Tuition Due Dates and Payment Options

Paying for college can be a daunting task. Understanding tuition due dates and available payment options is crucial for students attending MSU to avoid late fees and potential holds on their accounts. This article provides a comprehensive guide to MSU tuition due dates, payment plans, and important policies to help students manage their financial obligations effectively.

Understanding Billing and Payment Responsibility

MSU delivers all bills electronically. It is each student's responsibility to ensure that tuition, fees, and any other charges are paid by the due date specified on their bill. These charges can include, but are not limited to, Education Abroad program fees, MSU Print services, ID replacement costs, and other miscellaneous fees.

Payment Options

Students at MSU have two primary options for handling their tuition payments:

  1. Full Payment: Paying the entire bill in full by the designated due date for the semester.
  2. MSU Payment Plan: Enrolling in a monthly installment plan to spread out payments over the semester.

MSU Payment Plan Details

MSU partners with Transact Campus to offer students and their authorized guest users the option of paying tuition, fees, university housing, and meal plans in interest-free installments throughout the semester. This allows students to pay their account in up to four payments for fall and spring semesters and three payments for the summer semester.

Eligibility:

  • Any MSU student registered for classes for the upcoming semester is eligible to participate.
  • Your student account must be current, as balances from prior semesters cannot be included in a new semester payment plan.
  • Enrollment is not automatic; you must enroll each semester you would like to use the payment plan.
  • Eligibility is subject to good payment history with MSU.

How the Payment Plan Works:

  • A $40 non-refundable enrollment fee is required.
  • For fall and spring semesters, a 25% down payment is required at the time of enrollment, plus the $40 payment plan fee. The remaining balance will be paid in three equal amounts over the course of the semester (if enrolled by a certain date).
  • For the summer semester, a 33% down payment is required at the time of enrollment, plus the $40 payment plan fee. The remaining balance will be paid in two equal amounts (if enrolled by a certain date).
  • If enrolling in the payment plan after one or more installment due dates have passed, the amount due to enroll will be increased by the missed installment and not split evenly between the remaining installments.
  • The payment plan amounts will not adjust automatically for new charges that occur after the payment plan has been established. You must go into the portal and accept the option to consolidate the payment plan amount for any new charges. The payment plan amounts will adjust automatically for any new credits on the account.

Payment Methods: Payments can be made from a checking or savings account or from a credit or debit card. (A convenience fee will apply to all credit and debit card payments.) Payments may also be made by online 529 or international payment via Flywire. Scheduled payments are an option and can be automatically deducted using your payment method on the 1st of each month of the payment plan.

Consequences of Late Payments

  • A late payment fee of $30 will be assessed if payments are not received by the due date.
  • A financial hold will be placed on your student account.

MSU reserves the right to cancel your payment plan for failure to make payment when due. Full payment of tuition and fees is due by the payment deadline to avoid service charges. Any unpaid balance after 5 PM, will incur a 4% service charge. This first service charge will be waived if you enroll in a payment plan by the payment deadline. Please note: enrollment will not be canceled for non-payment, only for non-participation. It is the student’s responsibility to drop classes if they do not plan to attend.

  • Collections: If you do not pay your Summer 2025, Fall 2025, or any other past due balance in full or enroll in a payment plan by February 10, 2026, your account may be in danger of going to collections. Delinquent accounts will be turned over to a collection agency in accordance with Colorado law, and collection fees of up to 40% will be added to an account balance. The collection agency may report delinquent accounts to the national credit bureau.
