WIFLE Scholarship Program: Empowering Women in Federal Law Enforcement
Since its founding in 1999, Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) has championed the advancement of women in law enforcement by collaborating with members, partners, sponsors, and the broader law enforcement community. WIFLE is the only non-profit organization to offer these awards to recognize exceptional courage, outstanding accomplishments, and significant contributions that have advanced the recruitment, retention, and promotion of women in federal law enforcement. To further its mission, WIFLE offers several scholarships to talented individuals to meet demands in the field of law enforcement and to foster the professional development of those engaged in Law Enforcement. These scholarships, awarded through the Women in Federal Law Enforcement Foundation Scholarship Program, aim to fuel the passion for seeking justice and support the educational pursuits of women interested in federal law enforcement careers.
Overview of the WIFLE Scholarship Program
The Women in Federal Law Enforcement Foundation Scholarship Program is open to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students pursuing a career in federal law enforcement. WIFLE scholarships are awarded based on a student’s academic potential, achievement, and commitment to serving communities in the field of law enforcement. Scholarship awards are $2,500 each but may vary. Scholarship Awards may be renewable on subsequent applications.
Key Dates
Programs open February 15 of each calendar year and close on May 1 of each year. Check on or about February 15 each year for the links to Award and Scholarship details, deadlines, and packages. WIFLE formally solicits Agencies by letter once a year to nominate individuals who have demonstrated achievements outstanding enough to compete for the various annual WIFLE Awards.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the WIFLE Scholarship Program, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- Educational Level: The program is open to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students. Students pursuing Associate degrees are not eligible unless they fully articulate in the application their intention to transfer to a four-year program.
- Area of Study: Eligible students may major in Criminal Justice or a related discipline, such as social sciences, public administration, computer science, finance, linguistic arts, chemistry, physics, etc., leading to a four-year degree.
- GPA Requirement: A grade point average of 3.0 or above is required.
- Citizenship: United States citizenship is required.

An application packet that is incomplete, missing the required documents, or does not meet the criteria will not be considered further.

Essential Components
Applicants must provide the following to be considered for the WIFLE Scholarship:
- Essay: In a 500-word essay, show your commitment to the development and growth of your community. If you’ve worked (or are currently working) for a law enforcement agency, provide details such as the name of the agency, the work duration, and the value of the experience. Emphasize your engagement in your community.
- Statement of Support: Provide a written statement of support from at least one community leader or police official. The letter of support should relate to the applicant's pursuit of a law enforcement-related degree or desire/interest in pursuing a law enforcement-related degree. To corroborate your commitment to your community, get at least one recommendation letter from your community leader or police official.
- Academic Transcript: The scholarship committee requires that you have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify for this scholarship. If yours meets or beats the required score, send your college transcript along with your application. Show your academic potential.

WIFLE Members Scholarship
WIFLE awards one scholarship in the amount of $1,500 per year to a Regular or Associate Member or Regular or Associate Member sponsored applicant. Once selected for the award, the student will receive an additional automatic $1,500 in the following year without renewing the application.
