Navigating the William Carey University Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

William Carey University (WCU) offers a comprehensive suite of online resources for its students, designed to streamline administrative tasks, provide important information, and enhance the overall student experience. This guide provides a detailed overview of the key portals and online services available to WCU students, helping them navigate their academic journey with ease.

MyHousing: Managing Your Residential Life

For residential students, the Housing Director Student Self-Service (THDSS) portal, accessible through MyHousing, is the central hub for managing all aspects of on-campus living. This online process allows students to:

  • Check the status of your application and assignment.
  • Submit work orders for any maintenance issues in your assigned space.
  • View your billing information related to housing costs.
  • Search for a roommate.
  • See waiting list information, if applicable.
  • Complete and sign the MyHousing Profile and Housing Agreement, which is required prior to checking into your assigned room.

Meal Plans:

All residential students are required to have a meal plan. Through MyHousing, students can confirm their Meal Plan choice and make changes if desired. It's important to note that The 5 Meal Plan option is available only to Penton Residents or Commuter students.

Roommate and Room Selection:

During Housing Reassignment periods, Room Consolidation periods, and/or for new residential students, the Roommate/Room Selection tab becomes active. This allows students to submit roommate requests and participate in room selection processes, if available under your tab.

Transitioning to Campus Life:

WCU aims to assist students in the transition from life at home to life on campus. Be sure to check out our WCU Res Life and Housing Guide to Residential Living for more information on how to manage your housing affairs.

Indigo Portal and myStatus Page: Your Academic Standing

The myStatus page, accessed through the Indigo Portal, is designed to keep Carey students informed about their admissions and registration status. This page provides critical information regarding a student's standing with various departments across campus, empowering them to take ownership of their academic progress.

The myStatus page uses a color-coded system to indicate the status of required information:

  • Orange boxes: Represent partially incomplete information.
  • Red boxes: Indicate a failure to properly supply data or complete procedures essential to registration.

The boxes listed under a particular student relate specifically to his or her current state in the registration process.

Key information displayed on the myStatus page includes:

  • Admissions Status: This box contains the student's current status in the Office of Admissions. A student may move through several different statuses in his or her admissions process, and not every status will allow registration.
  • Admissions Documents: This box lists important documents that the student will need to submit to the Office of Admissions. Documents that are listed in bold are missing.
  • Admissions Status Notification: This box displays the student's current Admissions Status.
  • Registration Terms: This box will display whether or not the term for which a student applied is currently open for registration. It includes dates for Pre-Registration, General Registration, and Late Registration.
  • Program Information: This box will display a student's declared major(s) and minor(s). It will also display whether or not a program has been chosen as a student's primary course of study. Each student must supply a major. Students who are unsure of their programs may select Undecided as a major.
  • Religion Information: This box displays a student's chosen religion. Each student must declare a religion of preference. If the student chooses Southern Baptist, he or she must also supply the name of the church attended.
  • Missing Transfer Transcript: This box lists all currently outstanding transcripts that the Office of Admissions needs in order to determine a transfer student's admission or rejection.
  • Advisor Information: This box displays whether or not a student has been assigned an advisor. Each student must be assigned an advisor before being allowed to register. If the student has been accepted, there will be a prompt for the student to contact his or her School in order to have an advisor assigned.
  • Advisor Clearance: This box displays whether or not a student has received clearance to register from his or her advisor. If an advisor has been assigned, the student will be prompted to contact his or her advisor by name.
  • Registration Holds: This box displays any holds that may be on the student's account. The student may have multiple holds from multiple Offices on campus. Not all holds stop registration, though many will need to be removed before registration can be completed.
  • Information Technology Account: This box will note whether or not a student has successfully activated an Indigo Portal account.
  • Information Technology Welcome Letter: This box will note whether or not a student has been sent the IT Welcome Letter.

Account Security and Password Management

In today's internet environment, it has become more important than ever to take steps towards keeping your personal information safe and secure. WCU emphasizes the importance of strong passwords and secure online practices.

Passphrases:

WCU encourages users to begin moving toward passphrases and away from passwords. A passphrase is a unique combination of words, numbers, and symbols that are easy and familiar to you but obscure to anyone attempting to guess it. Passphrases tend to be longer than a password, which also increases their native security.

Password Security Tips:

  • Do not keep your password written down in an easy-to-find location.
  • Do not tell other people your password. Your password is just that, YOURS.
  • After resetting your password, please allow 15 minutes for the password to synchronize across all services. Note: This process will reset the password for all online accounts that are tied to your student account.
  • After successfully resetting your password, please allow 15 minutes before attempting a login.

Username Format:

Your username is the first letter of your first name, your entire last name, and your student ID number.

Setting up your Account

Your account is now setup and should now be working. The device will attempt to set up the account automatically. If the settings are found, tap the desired Account options and tap NEXT. Enter wmcareyad\username and Exchange server = outlook.office365.com . The password is automatically populated from previous steps. Tap to check Use secure connection (SSL) and Use client certificate as required.
