AIGA: The Professional Association for Design

AIGA, The Professional Association for Design, at Winona State University is dedicated to raising awareness of the design department and enhancing the experience of WSU students. The club is actively involved in designing merchandise for campus students to celebrate holidays, campus events, and other organizations. AIGA Winona aims to improve student experiences through sales and marketing campaigns and assist other clubs in enhancing the quality of their events. American Marketing Association

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is an inclusive club open to students of all majors, not just marketing majors. It focuses on helping students develop professional and social skills while learning how to market themselves. Through educational discussions, the AMA empowers students to navigate the intersection of business and law, supporting personal and professional growth while embracing diverse perspectives. Financial Management Association (FMA)

The Financial Management Association (FMA) aims to foster the next generation of financial professionals by building their network of professional contacts and helping them gain valuable business experience. FMA focuses on enhancing the development of college students interested in finance, banking, real estate, and investments. The club encourages interaction between business executives, faculty, and students of business and finance. Students can develop their networking and interviewing skills, enhance their resumes, and find volunteering opportunities through the FMA.

Sports Management Club

The Sports Management Club dives into the business activities behind major and minor sports leagues. The meetings provide a great way to learn about the different firms in the area and to make connections with these employers for future internship and career opportunities.

Accounting Club

The Accounting Club coordinates trips to accounting firms in the Minneapolis area when event opportunities arise.

Case Competition Club

The Case Competition Club provides students with hands-on experience in tackling complex business problems. Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME)

The goal of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME) is to increase interest and knowledge in all areas of music and music education. CNAfME sponsors workshops and activities for area schools, provides service to area music educators, and attends state and national conferences in music education.

History Association

The History Association strives to promote history as a positive area among students, faculty, and administration at Winona State University. It provides students with information and opportunities in employment, internships, professional conferences, and encounters in the fields of history.

Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) strives to provide activities that will benefit students as they take on a career in public relations or related fields.

Winona State Orchestra Club

The purpose of the Winona State Orchestra Club is to engage in social events in addition to preparation of music for concerts every semester. Events hosted by the Orchestra Club include Wednesday night hangouts, attending performances by local orchestra communities such as the Minnesota Orchestra, and working with other clubs in the music department to create a fun and engaging environment in our building. Participation in the Winona State Orchestra Club is open to any member of the String Ensembles or Symphony Orchestra on our campus.

WSU Ad Fed

WSU Ad Fed is a college chapter of the American Advertising Federation. By joining and paying a fee, members are recognized as being part of the national organization that many industry professionals also belong to. WSU Ad Fed provides its members with many opportunities to become part of the advertising industry and gain knowledge about the field.

Pre-Physician Assistant Club

With a projected 30% job increase growth by 2024, the admission process for attending PA school has become increasingly competitive. The Pre-Physician Assistant Club holds sessions to inform and educate students on the profession, how it differs from other often-pursued medical routes, prerequisite courses for admission, writing workshops, GRE study sessions, and Physician Assistant-led Q&A nights. The goal of the club is to provide students with the tools to submit a strong application while also creating an environment of peers to help lead them to success. There is no GPA requirement of any kind. The club includes guest speakers, informational meetings, volunteering, free food, and more!

Society of Physics Students (SPS)

Each semester, the officers of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) gather member input to provide events, trips, volunteer opportunities, and skills-building activities based on the collective interest of the group. The club fosters professional development through encouraging leadership roles in subcommittees. SPS participates in community clean-up efforts and K-12 science education days, organizes outreach events with groups like the Coulee Rock Club, and plans campus-wide events that are academically appealing to a broad spectrum of university disciplines. The group plans fundraising projects each year to make events and activities possible.

Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE)

The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) duty is to coordinate social events for faculty and students. Furthermore, the club promotes the in-depth and extensive use of engineering laboratories and equipment through participation in the annual, national SAMPE Bridge Building Competition. In past years, SPE has traveled to large engineering conferences, providing new opportunities for students within the industry. Students learned many interesting things about the Composites industry, and numerous amounts of networking opportunities were discovered. SPE has recently provided activities to the students that encourage involvement and help students apply their learning in a hands-on environment all while getting to know their peers in the engineering department.

Chemistry Club

Chemistry Club is devoted to the appreciation of the chemical world by everyone, majors and non-majors alike. This will be accomplished by providing the students with resources including guest speakers, DAT and dental school admission information, and trips to schools/practices. Anyone, no matter their gender or identity or major is welcome to join!

Cultural and Identity-Based Organizations: Fostering Inclusion and Understanding

WSU is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive campus environment. Cultural and identity-based organizations play a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural understanding, celebrating diversity, and providing support networks for students from various backgrounds.

Black Student Union (BSU)

The Black Student Union (BSU) engages the community in efforts to promote cultural diversity and the peaceful coexistence of multicultural groups. Throughout the year, BSU hosts educational events on topics ranging from Black feminism to understanding and appreciating Black culture. BSU encourages unity, inspires leadership, and asserts dignity.

Hmong American Student Association (HASA)

HASA is committed to creating a supportive environment where Hmong students can network among their peers. By incorporating this, HASA enhances the WSU campus with Hmong Cultural knowledge and engages with diverse ethnicities. Encouraging the expression of personal identities and promoting cross-cultural understanding, HASA aims to contribute to a more interconnected and culturally aware campus.

Other Campus Organizations

Student Senate

Student Senate acts as the recognized voice and bargaining unit for all students at Winona State University. This is done through the process of consultation and student government.

Warrior Entertainment Network

The Warrior Entertainment Network strives to provide all students and the WSU community with inclusive opportunities that create engaged connections through entertainment.

Residence Hall Association (RHA)

Each hall has a Hall Council consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. RHA also works together with each Hall Council to provide fun events and a place for residents to voice opinions and concerns. Some events that have been sponsored by RHA in the past have been Beer Goggles, Block Party, East Lake Carnival and the Sheehan Luau. RHA has also had a student leader present during the planning stages of the New Hall and the renovated Jack Kane Dining Hall.

Health & Wellness Advocates

The Health & Wellness Advocates act as a resource for campus and community through educative events and presentations as well as weekly service hours conducted in The WELL, IWC 138. The club functions as an essential part of the education programming within Health & Wellness Promotion and Focuses on the seven dimensions of health and wellness: Social, Occupational, Environmental, Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual and Emotional.

Recreational and Special Interest Clubs: Pursuing Passions and Building Community

Beyond academics and cultural affiliations, WSU offers a variety of recreational and special interest clubs that cater to diverse passions and hobbies. These clubs provide opportunities for students to relax, socialize, and explore their interests outside of the classroom.

Film Club

The Film Club strives to make student films that include the entire film club, and these films would be on the club's YouTube channel. When joining film club, there is no commitment; anyone is welcome to come and enjoy.

Philosophy Club

The Philosophy Club may discuss the works of past and present philosophers, scientific/cultural/social/environmental phenomena, and most any topic under the sun. A primary goal of the club is to provide a safe space for people to delve into self-reflection through this community of friends. The club hopes to help one another gain an empathic view, ultimately applying newly found ideas into our everyday lives.

Bob Dylan Appreciation Club

The Bob Dylan Appreciation Club incorporates history and the arts. Activities could include Bob Dylan Karaoke, watching the Bob Dylan movie, Bob Dylan Trivia, and discussing world politics/economics as well as the arts. Everyone is welcomed!

Criminal Justice Club

The Criminal Justice Club will play games/activities, participate in volunteer work, talk about all aspects of Criminal Justice, listen to speakers, and more. This helps better equip those who will be going through the program as well as give insight to those who are about to go out into the real world. The club also gets in contact with other organizations on campus and works with them.

Recreation, Tourism, and Therapeutic Recreation (RTTR) Club

The Recreation, Tourism, and Therapeutic Recreation Program at Winona State University takes pride in each and every RTTR student, alumni, faculty, and staff. The RTTR Club is truly a community for student support and inclusiveness through the unique program at WSU. The club's purpose is to provide students with recreational opportunities, internship/job opportunities, fundraising experience, volunteerism, alumni speakers, and resume help. In addition, this club works to promote community involvement through outreach services while strengthening relationships on individual, community, and system levels. We address health issues through needs assessments to create, promote, and implement change. This is a great opportunity for students to get to know other people in the program and people with similar interests, as well as promote the RTTR majors and minor.

Pre-Veterinary Club

The Pre-Veterinary Club's goal is to provide support and assistance for students who will eventually be applying and attending Veterinary School. The club is also open to animal lovers who want to learn how to keep their pets happy and healthy.

Outdoor Recreation Education (ORE) Club

The Outdoor Recreation Education (ORE) Club is a lighthearted group that enjoys the outdoors, lively conversations, good food and beverage- and meeting new people that get stoked about the same stuff!

Medical Imaging Club

Each year, the Medical Imaging Club hosts several events - including trivia, game nights, study sessions, and things of that nature. They also provide free t-shirts for students in the club (typically available in the spring). Connecting with other students helps with homework, references, studying, making friends, and just talking about different types of medical images.

Future Social Studies Teachers

A space for collaboration and engagement within social studies education.

Winona State University American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Student Chapter

As a student chapter, we focus on improving choral music as an art at Winona State University. Students from all majors and minors are welcome to be a part of the ACDA Student Chapter.

Winona State University National Education Association Student Program (WSU-NEA)

This branch is under NEA and Education Minnesota. shall provide a united voice for public education, leadership in education innovation, dedication to students and families, and an unwavering commitment to the welfare of our members. We shall provide service to our members by building and maintaining a strong, effective chapter and by promoting instructional advocacy.

Winona State University Physical Education Club (PE Club)

The intent of PE Club is to provide an organizational platform for students within the Physical Education major, as well as those outside the major with a genuine interest in physical education to become more involved in the areas of: community service, professional development and advocacy for all ages to be physically active for a lifetime. We serve campus, the Winona community, and the state of MN through a wide variety of events that provide opportunities for members to gain organization and leadership skills and to experience working with and advocating for students and adults with disabilities! All majors are welcome to join!

Winona State University Reading Council

We promote literacy in the community through outreach projects and support for teacher candidates.

Jazz Appreciation Club

As a club we host and participate in jazz events.

Mock Trial Club

Such events include informational meetings, conducting faux trials, movie nights, and other miscellaneous events. The organization builds skills in research, public speaking and diplomacy while gaining an understanding of international relations.

Music Business Club

Provide business experiences and touchpoints for students within the music industry.

Chinese Club

We have some activities during the semester like learning Chinese, writing Chinese characters, watching Chinese movies, playing games, making dumplings, etc. We have a big event to eat Moon Cake, drink Chinese tea, and play games on this Moon Festive. There is always something fun! Everybody is welcome to check us out!

Financial Aid and Support

And that means supporting you in all areas of your life. Grants are free money from the government to help you pay for college. Grants are like scholarships because they provide free money to help you afford college. The maximum Federal Pell Grant award is $6,895 for the 2022-2023 award year. This grant is renewable each year. However, you can only receive the Federal Pell Grant for a total of 12 full-time semesters (or equivalent). Courses added after the Pell Recalculation Date (the first date financial aid disburses each semester) are not able to be included in Pell Grant payment calculations. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid. To have the best chance at a SEOG grant, file your FAFSA as soon as possible starting Oct. This is different from the Federal Pell Grant program, which provides funds to every eligible student. The WSU Financial Aid Office awards SEOG grants based on the FAFSA information and funds available. Sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve. Or perhaps you don’t take a teaching job at a low-income school. These decisions would make it so that you are unable to fulfill your service obligation. As there is currently not a federal process in place, this documentation is not currently required. The award amount is calculated based on how many credits you are enrolled in.
