Wisconsin Conservatory of Music: Lifelong Learning Through Music
The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music (WCM) believes in the transformative power of music, offering lifelong learning programs designed to inspire individuals of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner taking your first steps in music or a seasoned performer seeking to refine your craft, WCM provides opportunities to experience the joy of music.
Private Music Lessons (All Ages)
At the heart of WCM's offerings are private music lessons, catering to students of all ages and abilities. The conservatory boasts a faculty of world-renowned teachers and performers, each wholly dedicated to providing exceptional music education. These instructors offer personalized guidance and instruction, tailoring their approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each student. Whether you aspire to master an instrument, develop your vocal skills, or explore music theory, WCM's private lessons provide a solid foundation for musical growth.
Early Childhood Music Programs (Ages 0-4)
For the youngest music enthusiasts, WCM offers engaging and playful Early Childhood music programs. These programs serve as an introduction to musical concepts for students aged 0-4. These programs are presented in early childhood centers, preschools, libraries, and other organizations. Guided by faculty artists, students explore and learn musical concepts through singing, call and response, movement, and hands-on music making in an encouraging and joyful environment. These early experiences foster a love of music and lay the groundwork for future musical exploration.
Piano Safari (Ages 4-6)
Young children aged 4-6 can embark on a musical adventure with Piano Safari, a comprehensive piano method that blends the most effective techniques from various teaching approaches. Unlike many traditional methods, Piano Safari takes a deliberate approach to reading music while advancing quickly in playing skills. This method provides a fun and engaging way for young learners to develop their piano skills and musical literacy.
Music Counts (K4-8th Grade)
WCM extends its reach into schools with Music Counts, a general music program designed for students in K4-8th grade. This program provides creative, engaging, curriculum-based classroom music education that meets state and national standards. Led by faculty artists, Music Counts is a comprehensive music program designed to build fundamental musical skills and aims to give every child a lifelong love of music. Music Counts is available to public, private, charter, and choice schools as a fully integrated school music program or as a supplement to existing programs. By integrating music into the school curriculum, WCM helps to foster creativity, cultural awareness, and essential life skills in young learners.

WCM believes in bringing music directly to the community through its Performance Series Concerts. On-site performances feature Wisconsin Conservatory Faculty Artists in an up-close and personal setting brought directly to audiences- wherever they are! These concerts can include engagement of audience members in discussion, teaching resources for schools, guided listening, and even musical participation. Repertoire presented in our Performance Series Concerts can be tailored to audiences of all ages. These concerts provide an opportunity to experience the joy of live music and connect with talented musicians.
The Importance of Music Education
Music education plays a vital role in the development of well-rounded individuals. Studies have shown that music education can improve cognitive skills, enhance creativity, boost self-esteem, and promote social and emotional development. By providing access to high-quality music instruction, WCM helps to empower individuals to reach their full potential and enrich their lives through music.
Addressing Academic Performance
While WCM excels in providing music education, it is important to acknowledge broader educational concerns. The Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning is performing below average compared to public and charter schools in Wisconsin with the same grade levels. Many successful high school students end up in remedial math courses in college. Test scores are important to look at because they indicate where students are performing compared to grade-level standards. Schools that create a positive culture help all students thrive. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach, including a focus on academic rigor, student support, and a positive school culture.
