The Consulting Internship: Navigating the Energy and Materials Transitions

Wood Mackenzie's Consulting division offers a powerful combination of natural resources expertise and commercial consulting skills, partnering with clients to provide actionable recommendations that deliver results as they begin to navigate the challenges of the energy and materials transitions.

The 12-week internship program, commencing on June 10th, is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of the commercial drivers in the energy sector and the major challenges facing the natural resources sectors. Interns will gain insights into how these sectors interrelate and what strategies companies are adopting to tackle these challenges. The internship offers exposure to Wood Mackenzie's six key consulting sectors: upstream, downstream, gas & LNG, metals & mining, hydrogen, and power and renewables. This opportunity is best suited for candidates in their final year of study.

Immersive Projects and Skill Development

Interns will have the opportunity to develop their technical skills by immersing themselves in meaningful projects. These projects may include building, analyzing, and presenting datasets, as well as developing supporting tools. Examples of potential projects include:

  • Lifecycle carbon analysis of renewable technologies
  • Desktop research exploring Gas & LNG pipeline developments
  • Examining commodity market fundamentals (supply, demand, price) for base metals and battery raw materials

Interns will collaborate closely with the global team of experienced analysts and consultants to understand how to approach industry challenges, gaining insight into how different teams (Research, Data, Technology, Sales, Marketing, and more) collaborate to create and deliver value for clients. The internship also offers the opportunity to start building a professional network to kickstart a future career in consulting.

What Wood Mackenzie is Looking For

To be eligible for the internship, candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program related to one of the following degrees: Political Science, Economics, International Affairs, International Business, Environmental Studies, Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Management. A demonstrated history of leveraging data to solve problems is also required.

Applicants must have the legal Right to Work in the country this role is based in, as Wood Mackenzie is unable to sponsor employment visas at this time. The company follows a hybrid work structure where employees are to be in the office a minimum of 2 days per week.

Successful candidates will possess strong collaboration skills, the ability to creatively problem-solve, an analytical mind and eye for detail, and great written and verbal communication skills.
