APEX Sophomore Select Program Details
The APEX-Reach program is a comprehensive four-year curriculum designed for academically gifted and motivated learners. It combines accelerated honors-level coursework with rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) level studies. This program aims to provide students with a broad, general background in various academic areas, tailored to their advanced learning capabilities.
Program Structure and Integration
The APEX-Reach program integrates both heterogeneously and homogeneously grouped classes within the regular high school setting, ensuring that APEX-Reach Scholars are an integral part of the school community, not a separate entity. Following a structured ninth-grade program focused on support and skill refinement, the curriculum is designed to allow individual choices for APEX-Reach Scholars, giving them the flexibility to pursue their educational goals from 10th through 12th grade. Initially, students are grouped into three APEX-Reach courses to facilitate cross-disciplinary learning experiences, nurture academic growth, build self-confidence, provide unique experiences, and prepare students for advanced placement coursework.
Sophomore Year Expectations
In the sophomore year, students are expected to complete at least two Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This requirement ensures that students are challenged and prepared for the increasing demands of the program in subsequent years.
Advanced Placement Requirements
The APEX-Reach program has specific AP course requirements for each year. In the junior year, students are expected to complete at least three AP courses. By the end of their senior year, students should have successfully completed at least nine AP courses, achieving a score of three or higher on at least six AP exams.
Application Process
Application to the APEX-Reach Scholars Program can be initiated by either the student or a parent. Teachers are also encouraged to recommend students who meet the program's requirements and would benefit from it. The selection process begins upon receipt of the completed application. Applicants are responsible for submitting an accurate online application by the specified deadlines. Official report cards for the applicant's coursework in grades 7 and 8 will be provided by the current school's counseling department.
