Navigating the Ashland University Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide
Ashland University offers a diverse and engaging academic environment for its students. The student portal serves as a central hub for accessing essential information and resources. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of how to navigate the Ashland University student portal effectively, covering aspects from admissions to residence life and academic support.
Admission Information
Application Deadlines and Types
Ashland University offers several admission options to cater to different student needs and preferences:
- Early Decision: A nonbinding option with an application deadline in November. It's designed for students who have identified Ashland University as their top choice.
- Priority Decision: A nonbinding option with an application deadline in January, offering early consideration for admission and scholarships.
- Regular Admission: The standard option with monthly decisions beginning in December. This is suitable for students considering multiple universities.
College Credit Plus (CCP) Program
High school students in grades 7-12 enrolled in Ohio public schools, nonpublic high schools, or homeschooled can participate in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program at Ashland University. CCP enhances students’ college readiness and postsecondary success, while providing a variety of course options to the college-ready student. To participate, students must be Ohio residents.
Application Deadlines for CCP: Nonpublic and homeschool students must apply by March 1 for Summer and Fall semesters and by October 5 for the Spring semester.
Important Considerations for CCP Students: The subject matter of some courses may include mature topics or materials of a graphic, explicit, violent or sexual nature. Courses will not be modified for CCP students regardless of where course instruction occurs.

Reactivation for Former Students
Former students are welcome to return to Ashland University. Simply complete and submit the reactivation application form, listing any colleges or universities attended during their absence.
Financial Matters
Net Price Calculator
For undergraduate students (first-year and transfer), the Net Price Calculator estimates potential out-of-pocket costs by factoring in grants and scholarships. It is important to note that both calculators provide only estimates.
Scholarships
Ashland University offers a broad range of scholarships to recognize achievement in academics, athletics, the arts, and other areas.
Billing Statements
The billing statement shows actual charges for one semester, less any financial aid credited to the account. Certain situations may impact the ability for financial aid to apply to the billing statement.
Academic Resources
Archer Library
Archer Library supports the educational mission of Ashland University by providing information literacy-based library instruction sessions.

Information Literacy: Core competencies include "the abilities involved in identifying an information need, accessing needed information, evaluating, managing, and applying information, and understanding the legal, social, and ethical aspects of information use."
Instruction Sessions: These sessions are designed to actively involve students, providing opportunities for experiential learning and scaffolding relevant research skills. In-person instruction is held in the Bernice Faber Baker Active Learning Lab, located on the main floor of Archer Library. The classroom is equipped with both collaborative spaces and high-tech features that make it one of the most innovative classroom environments on campus. Synchronous and asynchronous library instruction, including video tutorials and recorded live sessions, is available using Microsoft Teams and Blackboard Learn.
Archer Library Guides: These guides are designed and developed by instruction librarians and library department liaisons. Librarians are available to collaborate with instructors to design instruction sessions and assignments that support course learning outcomes and the information literacy framework. The Framework is organized into six frames and identifies both knowledge practices and dispositions for learners developing their information literate abilities.
Library Research Databases
Library research databases are organized collections of resources, such as scholarly journals, periodicals, peer-reviewed articles, newspapers, eBooks, or media, available to users online. They are a powerful search tool providing students the ability to modify results and find credible information. Partnering with OhioLINK, Archer Library has purchased access to database collections from vendors such as EBSCO, ProQuest, Springer, and Wiley. They are proprietary resources, meaning availability is restricted to Ashland University and OhioLINK users. For this reason, students are required to log in with their AU credentials to view and use from off-campus locations.
FERPA and Parental Support
Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), once a child is enrolled in college, they are considered an adult when it comes to their academic matters. As a result, they are responsible for handling their own academic affairs.

Campus Life
Residence Life
Living on campus places students in the midst of all activities, from in-hall events to concerts and guest lectures. It provides easier access to classrooms, facilities like the Rec Center, and a network of friends and study partners. Benefits include around-the-clock security, free maintenance services, and readily available resources.
The Residence Life Office is committed to creating a welcoming community that promotes learning, service, citizenship, diversity, and integrity and to maintaining a welcoming environment that fosters dignity, care, and respect.
Housing Accommodations
Ashland University will accept and consider requests for reasonable accommodation in university housing at any time. If the request for accommodation is made after the deadlines listed below, Ashland University cannot guarantee that it will be able to meet the individual’s accommodation needs during the first semester or term of occupancy.
- Returning Students: If you are interested in a housing accommodation or currently have an accommodation and want to maintain that accommodation next year, you must go through the renewal process. Submit your Housing Accommodations Request Form by January 31 to apply for housing accommodations for the following academic year.
Roommate Relationships and Conflict Resolution
Many of the ways people prevent conflicts are also the means for resolving them. For example, if you talk about issues openly, without laying blame and you listen well, you’ll prevent many conflicts - and be better able to resolve those conflicts that do arise.
Resources for New Students
Activating Student Accounts and Registering for Classes
New students can find basic information on how to activate their student account, register for classes, and purchase textbooks.
Housing Application
Once students have paid their $300 enrollment deposit, they can complete Part II of their enrollment forms, which includes the housing application. Ashland University considers residential living to be an essential part of the student learning experience.
CCP Scholarship for Matriculating Students
All high school students (in the Class of 2024 and beyond) who are enrolled in the College Credit Plus program at AU and matriculate directly from high school into an AU bachelor's program will receive a yearly $1000 scholarship ($500 to be awarded in the fall semester and $500 in the spring semester).
