Assumption University Scholarships for International Students: A Comprehensive Guide

Assumption University recognizes and rewards students' potential through various scholarships, academic scholarships and grants, awarding over $50 million each year to benefit more than 99% of its students. These funds do not need to be repaid, making them an invaluable resource for students pursuing higher education.

Types of Scholarships and Grants

Assumption University offers a variety of scholarships and grants tailored to different student profiles and achievements. These include academic scholarships, need-based grants, and scholarships based on specific talents or affiliations.

Academic Scholarships

Academic scholarships are awarded to new students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership, and potential for success at Assumption University. These institutional academic-based scholarships are renewable each year, provided students maintain the specified grade point average.

The Rise Scholarship

The Rise Scholarship is a $2,000 scholarship that recognizes students who demonstrate strong academic performance, determination, and promise, rewarding those who are ascending through effort and growth.

The Civic Friendship Scholarship

The Civic Friendship Scholarship is a $10,000 scholarship and leadership initiative designed for students who are committed to promoting mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and active engagement in the common good within communities.

Saint Augustine Scholarship

All Catholic high school graduates who are accepted for admission to Assumption (as a first year or transfer) are awarded the $3,000 per year Saint Augustine Scholarship.

Assumption Business Leader Scholarship

Every incoming first year student admitted to the Accelerated BA/MBA Dual Degree program is considered for a $4,000 Assumption Business Leader Scholarship, distributed as $1,000 for each of the 4 years as an undergraduate student.

Dual Degree Scholarship

Every incoming first year student admitted to the Accelerated and Dual Degree Program (ABA, Clinical Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, School Counseling, and Special Education) is considered for a Dual Degree Scholarship of $1,000 for each of your 4 years as an undergraduate student.

Blue and White Sports Scholarships

Blue and White Sports are competitive club programs overseen by the Department of Athletics. Some of these club programs may offer scholarship opportunities. For those programs in which scholarships are available, they are awarded upon the recommendation of the head coach and the approval of the Director of Athletics. A Blue and White scholarship is restricted to educational expenses such as tuition, fees, housing, food, and required course-related books.

Army ROTC Scholarships and Stipends

Army ROTC Scholarships are available to university-bound high school students as well as current university students. Two-, three-, and four-year scholarships are available, depending on the length of time remaining to finish your degree. Prospective high school and current college students who receive an ROTC scholarship are eligible to receive an Assumption Housing and Food Stipend as an enrolled undergraduate student.

Assumption University ROTC Housing & Food stipends are fixed amounts that are set each year based on the standard housing and meal rates. Assumption ROTC Housing and Food stipends are only available to undergraduate students who live on campus. To maintain eligibility, students must live in Assumption University housing and enroll in an Assumption meal plan each year, in addition to maintaining their ROTC Scholarship and passing financial aid SAP (satisfactory academic progress). Any previously awarded Assumption University Scholarship funding will be canceled if a student receives a full tuition ROTC Scholarship. No combination of institutional, federal, state, or outside financial aid funding or resources can exceed Assumption’s cost of attendance.

Band and Vocal Music Scholarships

Assumption University offers band scholarships in all instruments (excluding bowed strings) to first-year students who demonstrate exceptional instrumental talent and are willing to participate in the Assumption University Band or the Assumption University Jazz Ensemble. The scholarship is renewable each year for instrumentalists who want to be part of an exciting, high-level ensemble experience.

Assumption University also offers vocal music scholarships, based on an audition, to incoming first-year students who demonstrate vocal excellence and who commit to participation in the Assumption University Chorale and its a cappella chamber ensemble, VOCE. The scholarship is renewable each year, provided the student continues to participate in Chorale and VOCE and maintains good attendance in those ensembles.

Organ Scholarships

Assumption offers a limited number of organ scholarships of up to full tuition. Organ Scholars are expected to major in Music (a double major can be declared), practice 15 hours per week, and fulfill campus ministry responsibilities, including playing for approximately 10 Masses per semester.

Need-Based Grants

Assumption University provides grants to students who demonstrate financial need, with the FAFSA form required each year for consideration.

Federal Grant Programs

Assumption University participates in the following Federal Grant Programs:

  • Federal Pell Grant: Awarded to undergraduate students with considerable financial need. Annual award amounts are determined each year by the Federal Government.
  • FSEOG (Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant): Funds are awarded to undergraduate students who have Federal Pell Grant eligibility. Funding levels are determined each year by the Federal Government.

State Grant Programs

Assumption University participates in the following state grant programs:

  • MASSGrant: Available to full-time undergraduate students who are permanent legal residents of Massachusetts. Award amounts are determined each year by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Gilbert Grant: Available to full-time undergraduate students who are permanent legal residents of Massachusetts. Funding levels are determined each year by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • High Demand Scholarship: The Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance offers the High Demand Scholarship to students attending private institutions. Students enrolled in STEM, Health Professions, Education, Business and Economics, Social Work, and Criminal Justice majors are eligible to apply.
  • Assumption University participates in other state grant programs available to non-MA resident students. Awards from states will not be added to your financial aid package until official notification of eligibility from the state’s agency is received (generally occurring during the summer months).

External Scholarships

Scholarships may also be available through sources such as religious and civic organizations, banks, credit unions, your parents’ employer, or local businesses. Check with your guidance counselor for help researching potential scholarship sources. Remember to inform the Financial Aid Office of scholarships you receive from other sources.

Assumption University’s Academic Merit Scholarship (AUAMS)

Assumption University, with its ultimate aim to encourage undergraduate students to maximally utilize their potentiality in their studies, strengthen their academic calibers, and strive for academic distinction, has granted Assumption University’s Academic Merit Scholarship (AUAMS) to reward the students who are able to achieve and sustain their highly outstanding academic achievement.

Following are the process and requirements the students need to fulfill in order to be qualified for Assumption University’s Academic Merit Scholarship (AUAMS) - Effective for students with student ID 682-xxxx onwards.

I. Obtaining the Eligibility Status:

Earn at least 50 cumulative credits - hereinafter this semester would be referred to as “eligibility semester”.

II. Completing the Qualified Status:

In the semester

a) following the “eligibility semester”:

1.1 declare their major before or at the time of subjects’ enrollment, (failure to declare their majors would subject the students to the disentitlement of the AUAMS irrespective of their fulfillment of the requirements in 1.2 and 2).

1.2 enroll subjects with a minimum combined credit of 18 credits

e) but not exceed 22 credits, and make a full payment for the enrolled subjects

b), c).

1.3 the graduating students in their last semester are allowed to enroll less than 18 credits based on their program’s requirements. The AUAMS, however, will not be applied to any subjects/credits enrolled exceeds the program’s requirements.

Secure required passing grades

d) of the subjects with the total credits of no less than 15 credits

e), and successfully maintain a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.95 - hereinafter this semester would be referred to as “qualified semester”.

III. Declaring the bank account to which the approved refund would be remitted:

  1. Remark:

a) The AUAMS excludes the summer session - The students will fully absorb tuition fees of subjects enrolled in the summer session.

b) The AUAMS excludes subjects in Aeronautic Engineering and Coursera courses.

c) The AUAMS excludes students from Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics, majoring in Design and Digital Innovation, majoring in Sustainable Business Management, majoring in Global Hospitality Management, majoring in Family Business Management and Innovation, Albert Laurence School of Communication Arts, majoring in Imagineer Media Entrepreneurship and AU Simba program.

d) Required passing grade for English I to IV and required subjects stipulated in the program students declared as their major is “C” or above, while passing grade for required subjects in other programs students enrolled as free electives is “C- (C minus) and D”.

e) Any subjects enrolled in the “qualified semester” with “W” grade will not be eligible for the full refund.

f) Students receiving any other scholarships or financial aid granted from Assumption University will not be eligible for the AUAMS.

Terms of Reference:

Eligibility Semester - the semester in which the students have obtained a cumulative credit of at least 50 credits.

Qualified Semester - the semester following the Eligibility Semester, the students enroll minimum combined credits of 18 but not exceed 22 credits, and obtain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.95.

Note: Students with Student ID 681 or lower must follow the previous Merit Scholarship criteria, which require a minimum cumulative GPA 3.85.

International Student Specific Information

Definition of an International Student

If you are not a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, you would be classified as an international student at Assumption University.

Application Requirements

All international applicants must complete the Declaration of Finances at the time of application as a required material to be considered for admission at Assumption University. Although Assumption does offer competitive financial aid packages, we do not offer full tuition scholarships to any of our applicants, domestic or international.

Financial Documentation

The financial statement is a required bank statement in USD which must be officially certified or notarized indicating that the candidate has sufficient funds for living and study expenses for one full calendar year.

English Language Proficiency

We encourage all international applicants to submit proof of English language proficiency (i.e., minimum passing scores on the TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, Pearson, and iTEP exams). If you list your test scores on the application, you are still required to have original test scores forwarded to Graduate Studies. Assumption’s TOEFL code is 3009.

Transcript Evaluation

Transcript evaluations results must be sent directly from the evaluating company to Assumption University. If you will be considered for transfer credit, we would require a course by course evaluation to be done.

Visa Information

To obtain your F-1 Student Visa, you must first have a completed Form I-20 from the DSO (Designated School Official) at Assumption. The Form I-20 is started, completed and sent to you after you submit your $400 deposit to Assumption. Once you receive your Form I-20, you will need to submit a request for a visa interview with your local embassy. When you are given a date for your visa interview, important points to remember are to show up early and bring as much documentation as possible. These documents should include all the information you have sent Assumption including your transcripts, financial statements and Form I-20.
