Arkansas State University: Resources for Current Students
Arkansas State University (A-State) is dedicated to supporting its students both inside and outside the classroom. Understanding that students may encounter personal, academic, and financial difficulties during their time at A-State, the university provides a comprehensive array of resources designed to promote retention and academic success. Registration and Academic Information
Online Registration through Self Service
Students register for courses online through Self Service. The Student myCampus Registration Guide provides instructions on how to register and explains the registration pages in Self Service.
Transfer Coursework Evaluation
Students transferring to Arkansas State University may have completed comparable coursework at other institutions. The Chairperson of the relevant department may accept this coursework. The Registrar's Office requires an Evaluation Form signed by the department chair to process transfer credits.
Change of Major Process
Students wishing to change their major should visit the department of their new major and meet with the new advisor or departmental staff. The Office of Admissions, Records, and Registration provides an electronic Change of Major form accessible to faculty and staff in myCampus.
Course Substitutions
Course substitutions require approval from both an advisor and the chairperson of the appropriate department. Students initiate the Departmental Course Substitution / Approval Form, but the advisor must approve it and forward it to the department chair. The department chair then signs and forwards the form to the Registrar’s office.

Academic Standing
A-State monitors students' Academic Standing, classifying them as being in Good Academic Standing, Academic Probation, or Academic Suspension.

A-State Online Tutoring
A-State Online Tutoring services offer free academic assistance in Math, Biology, Chemistry, Financial & Managerial Accounting, and Business Finance.
The Math Learning Commons
The Math Learning Commons, located in Dean B. Ellis Library, is available to all registered A-State students. It provides a space for tutoring, computer use, independent study, and group study.
World Languages & Cultures Multimedia and Tutoring Center
The World Languages & Cultures Multimedia and Tutoring Center, located in Dean B. Ellis Library, is open and available for all students.
A-State Online Writing Center
The A-State Online Writing Center provides writing services to A-State Online students, focusing on developing successful written communication habits. The staff consists of tutors from various writing backgrounds.

The Writing Center
The Arkansas State University Writing Center is a learning space where all members of the A-State community-undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff-can receive feedback on their writing. Qualified writing consultants assist at any stage of the writing process, from understanding assignment sheets to providing feedback on nearly finished projects. The center is open during class sessions for in-person or virtual (via Skype) consultations.

Student Support Services (SSS) is a comprehensive program located in Dean B. Ellis Library, designed to promote retention and academic success in college.
Open Educational Resources (OER)
Arkansas State University encourages the use of Open Educational Resources (OER) to reduce the cost of course materials for students. Several platforms provide access to free and open educational content:
- Department of Labor and California State University's MERLOTMyOpenMath: Offers algorithmically generated assessments for mathematics and quantitative fields to support the use of free, open textbooks.
- PhET: Provides interactive, research-based science and mathematics simulations in partnership with the University of Colorado.
- GCFGlobal: Offers free training in technology skills (MS Office, etc.), work skills, and core education skills; created by the Goodwill Community Foundation.
- Mason OER Metafinder (MOM): A federated search engine scanning multiple OER platforms to find content; created by George Mason University Libraries.
- OER Commons: A digital library of open educational resources hosted by ISKME.
- OASIS: An open content search engine from SUNY Geneseo's Milne Library.

Health and Wellness Resources
Dean B. Ellis Library
The Dean B. Ellis Library functions as an educational center for the university, providing access to thousands of journal articles and books both physically in the library and online. The library is fully staffed year-round with professionals in administrative, research and educational support, library technology, collection management, metadata and discovery services, access and delivery services, and archives/special collections.
Access & Accommodation Services
Access & Accommodation Services focuses on facilitating opportunities to stimulate and create a barrier-free environment, eliminating academic, social, and physical obstacles which impede students' access to higher education.

Unplanned Pregnancy Prevention Resources
Act 943, passed by the Arkansas Legislature in 2015, directs colleges and universities to develop and implement action plans to help students prevent unplanned pregnancy or delay plans for additional pregnancies. Resources include:
- Arkansas Campaign to Prevent Unplanned Pregnancies: This non-profit organization provides information and resources, including contact information for local health centers.
Health Insurance
Students are required to have current health insurance for clinical rotations. Arkansas State University offers students the opportunity to purchase an accident and hospitalization insurance policy through a reputable insurance company.
Financial Assistance
Student Emergency Funds
Student Emergency Funds are available to students whose future at A-State may be in jeopardy and who have demonstrated a need for temporary financial assistance.
A-State Food Pantry
The A-State Food Pantry serves A-State faculty, staff, and students with a valid A-State ID. Location: 2907 E. Johnson Ave.
Scarlet Shirt Freshman Form
The Scarlet Shirt Freshman form allows students to enroll in online or on-campus courses taught by A-State faculty at a reduced rate of $40 per credit hour. This program is designed for students looking to explore courses outside of dual enrollment or those offered by their school's faculty. Counselor approval is required.

Clinical Placement Requirements
Students are required to undergo a screening procedure to establish eligibility for clinical placement. Students will be given an opportunity to challenge any information found that would negatively affect their eligibility through the Adverse Action process associated with Verified Credentials.
