Student Experiences and Testimonials

Studying abroad in Sevilla has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Living closely with three strangers and my Señora pushed me far outside my comfort zone and strengthened my Spanish through daily conversations at home and in the community. Sharing home-cooked meals, adapting to busy city life, and exploring historic streets, parks, and plazas changed my perspective. I grew more confident, independent, and culturally aware.

Barcelona Program

I had such an amazing time participating in CEA CAPA's Barcelona program. The staff in the CEA office were so amazing. This location specifically provides students with opportunities to do many fun trips and activities. While in Barcelona, I participated in so many opportunities CEA offered, like boxing classes, pilates, sound baths, walking dessert tours, a trip to Madrid, a trip to a winery in Stiges, a trip to a volcano and forest, it was amazing and all free!

Aix Marseille University Program

I did the French language program at Aix Marseille University and loved it. I got to meet so many people from around the world and practice my French every day to be able to converse with them. Doing it through CEA CAPA made the experience so much better and easier. They really helped us learn to navigate the city and the culture and taught us so much that we wouldn’t have known without them.

Florence Program

I loved my time in Florence! From enjoying the city with my roommates and new friends I made to the delicious food or the unique classes, it was honestly one of the best months ever. The academic/life balance was perfect and I truly learned a lot. I took a fashion studies class and a studio art class. Both classes had the best professors and the coolest field trips that really immersed me in the history and culture of the city. I also had plenty of time to explore Florence with my friends.

Prague Program

I chose Prague, Czech Republic, because many people either didn’t know much about the country or still associated it with Czechoslovakia. Geographically, it’s in the heart of Europe, making travel to other countries easy-like taking just a two-hour bus ride to Dresden, Germany. On top of that, the pictures of the city were stunning, from its churches to its castles. The program guided me through the process by providing the necessary forms for scholarships, financial payments, and the paperwork that needed signatures from advisors and department heads to ensure my classes would transfer back.

London Program

I had great professors while I studied with CAPA in London. I learned so much from my European Politics and Government course with David Edye and it really sparked an interest in European politics. The work was not overwhelming and it was manageable with my 20 hour per week internship. Understanding Modern Britain was excellent too and professor Mike Fosdal was awesome!

Key Takeaways from Student Experiences

  • Increased confidence and independence
  • Enhanced cultural awareness and adaptability
  • Development of practical skills and professional networks
  • Personal growth and resilience
  • Lifelong friendships and memories

Eligibility and Requirements

To be eligible for a CEA CAPA Global Internship, students must meet certain requirements:

  • Must be in good academic and disciplinary standing at your home institution.
  • By the start of the program, must be at least 18 years of age.
  • At time of program participation, must be enrolled as a degree seeking undergraduate student. Students enrolled in an institution in Canada or Mexico are eligible if the home institution accepts a US transcript and credits.

Language Proficiency

English-speaking placements are available on every global internship program. However, in some locations such as Madrid and Seville, English-speaking placements may be available only in certain career fields, while other career fields may require proficiency in the host language. If you are interested in applying for a placement in the host language of your program location, during the placement process your language proficiency will be assessed, and you will need to submit your Résumé and Statement of Interest in English and the host language. Also note that some placements may require native English fluency or equivalent due to internship responsibilities.

Cost and Funding

CEA CAPA Global Internships are unpaid academic experiences where students complete an internship alongside an academic program. To help offset the cost of an internship abroad, CEA CAPA offers more than $2 million each year in scholarships, affiliations, and grant programs for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.

Academic Credit

All standard CEA CAPA global internships abroad are credit-bearing. You can earn 3 or 6 credits for your internship through the accompanying Global Internship Course (GIC). You can enroll in additional courses to earn 12-15 credits total during the semester or 6-9 credits total during the summer.

Considerations for Prospective Interns

  • Financial Planning: Interning abroad can be expensive, so it's important to budget and save accordingly.
  • Cultural Immersion: Take advantage of opportunities to interact with locals and immerse yourself in the culture.
  • Safety: Be aware of your surroundings and take necessary safety precautions.
  • Work-Life Balance: Balance your internship responsibilities with exploring your host city and country.
