Unlocking Summer Fun: Exploring the Benefits of a Centennial Beach Student Pass

Centennial Beach, a unique aquatic park nestled in the heart of Naperville, offers a refreshing escape during the summer months. Unlike a traditional swimming pool, this historic ex-quarry provides a one-of-a-kind experience for individuals and families alike. For students looking to maximize their summer fun, a Centennial Beach student pass offers a range of benefits worth exploring.

A Historic Landmark

Centennial Beach is located at 500 W. It holds a special place in Naperville's history. Dating back to 1883, when George Martin began quarrying limestone in the area. In a community effort, 33 Naperville residents invested $500 each to purchase 45 acres encompassing a large and small abandoned quarry. Initially, Naperville residents enjoyed free entry, while visitors from outside the town paid a small fee (35 cents for adults and 10 cents for children). Over the years, Centennial Beach has undergone numerous improvements and additions, including renovations from 2002-2004 costing over $2 million, while preserving original structures like the bathhouse. Dates and Access

The 2025 beach season runs from May 18 to September 15. Passes go on sale March 3, 2025. It's important to note that entry to the beaches is restricted to season pass holders on weekends and holidays; daily admissions are not accepted on these days.

Benefits of a Centennial Beach Student Pass

Investing in a Centennial Beach student pass unlocks a variety of perks designed to enhance the summer experience:

  • Early Entry: Pass holders enjoy early access to the beach on weekdays, starting at 11:00 am.
  • Discounts at Centennial Grill: A 10% discount at Centennial Grill which is located near the skate park and offers classic American grill fare, makes those post-swim meals even more appealing.
  • Coupons for Park District Amenities: Pass holders receive coupons that can be redeemed for other Naperville Park District amenities, encouraging exploration of other recreational opportunities.

Membership Details and Access

Memberships are available for both Naperville residents and non-residents. Keep in mind that a membership doesn't guarantee immediate entry, as access is granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If you've had a membership in previous seasons, you can use your existing card. New members will need to have their picture taken for a membership card at locations like the Fort Hill Activity Center, Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center or Centennial Beach itself. Returning members can renew their 2024 membership online, with their current card automatically validated upon registration.

Daily Admission

For those who prefer not to purchase a season pass, daily admissions are an option, but only on Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Payment can be made via cash or credit at the beach entrance. Keep in mind that daily admissions are not available for personal watercraft.

Amenities and Activities

Centennial Beach offers a wide range of activities and amenities to keep visitors entertained:

  • Water Features: Experience the thrill of water pouring from 10 ft. above and water spouts shooting into the air. Note that pool noodles, floats, and tubes are not allowed.
  • Games and Recreation: Enjoy a permanent bag toss area near the volleyball courts, a Frisbee area, and a playground.
  • Picnic Area: There are picnic tables available in the grassy area, though they are somewhat limited.

Important Considerations

  • Weather Conditions: Be aware that Centennial Beach may close early, open late, or not open at all due to inclement weather.
  • Water Depth and Quality: The water depth ranges from zero depth to 4 ft at the shallow end. While the water is chlorinated and hand-skimmed, it is not filtered like a traditional swimming pool.
  • Transportation: Naperville is easily navigable by walking and cycling. However, bikes, scooters, skateboards, and “wheeled transportation vehicles” are prohibited on the Riverwalk. An on-street bike route is available on the north side of Centennial Park. There are several places to park for free around Centennial Beach.
  • Personal Watercraft: Season passes are required to launch personal watercrafts. The Stepan Family Boat Launch at Lloyd Beach operates from May 17 - September 14.
  • Group Bookings: Centennial Beach accepts reservations for large group bookings of 25-300 people.

Financial Assistance

The Naperville Park District understands that some residents may face financial hardship and offers a Fee Assistance Program. This program provides eligible individuals and families with the opportunity to enjoy recreational activities, including Centennial Beach memberships. Approved applicants receive assistance for one program per Program Guide season, up to a maximum of $100. Assistance may not be used for facility rentals or programs requiring a daily fee. The preschool maximum assistance award is $300, comprised of three, $100.00 fee waivers for October (fall), January (winter) and March (spring). To apply, visit the Fort Hill Activity Center.

Fitness Opportunities

Beyond swimming, the Naperville Park District promotes health and wellness through various fitness programs. Recurring memberships offer access to professional group fitness instruction, social experiences, and use of the track. Note that 13 and 14-year-olds are required to complete “Intro to P.A.R.K. Fitness” before being eligible for membership.
