Clemson University's acceptance rate of 43% indicates moderate competitiveness, meaning that in 2022, out of 52,819 applicants, 22,704 were accepted and 4,588 enrolled. While this figure provides a general overview, it's crucial to understand that acceptance rates reflect both a school's competitiveness and popularity. Successfully gaining admission to Clemson requires more than just meeting the minimum requirements. Successful applicants typically possess impressive test scores and a well-developed profile showcasing their unique talents, interests, and goals.
Early Action Admissions
Clemson offers an Early Action admissions option with an application deadline of October 15. Though Clemson doesn’t release data on whether students who submit by the Early Action deadline are accepted at a higher rate, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to apply early. Early action is a non-binding option that doesn’t commit you to attending a school if you are admitted.
Academic Expectations: GPA
Clemson does not have a minimum GPA requirement for admission, but it does consider your academic rigor and performance in high school. The average weighted GPA of admitted students was 4.38, which suggests that successful applicants generally pursued challenging coursework, such as honors, AP, or IB classes, and earned primarily A's. Aiming for a GPA in the top half of your class is advisable. If your GPA falls below the average, strong performance on standardized tests can help compensate. Furthermore, any extenuating circumstances that may have affected your grades should be addressed in the additional information section of your application.

Standardized Testing: SAT and ACT
While Clemson has adopted a test-optional policy, submitting strong SAT or ACT scores can bolster your application. If a student chooses that test scores should be used, the scores must be submitted electronically by the respective testing agency. Clemson University super-scores both the SAT and the ACT. For the ACT, this means we consider a student’s highest subject section scores in English, Reading and Math regardless of test date. Although the Science subject section score can still be submitted, it will not be factored into the super-score calculation, as it is now an optional section of the ACT.
SAT
The SAT requirements for Clemson University are a 1230 to 1390 composite score, combining the reading and writing, and math sections together. The average SAT score of admitted students was 1310, which is above the national average of 1059. Applicants should aim for a score within or above this range to be competitive. Clemson has a superscore policy for the SAT, combining the highest scores from different test dates to create your best possible score.
ACT
Applicants should score between 28 and 32 on their ACT to be strong candidates for admission to this school. The Application Process: Dates, Deadlines, and Requirements
To apply to Clemson, prospective students can submit their application through the Clemson Application, Coalition Application, Powered by Scoir, or the Common Application. No preference is given to any application in the admission review process. There is a nonrefundable $70 application fee. If you cannot afford to pay the application fee, please fill out the financial sections of the application completely. This information will determine if you meet the level of need we can approve by policy for a fee waiver. Clemson only accepts official test scores sent by the testing agency. Clemson University requires first-year applicants to self-report their high school transcripts.
Deadlines
The Application deadline for Early Action is October 15. January 1 is the deadline to submit your application for Regular Decision and scholarship consideration.
Application Requirements
Every school requires an application with the bare essentials - high school transcript and GPA, application form, and other core information. Many schools, as explained above, also require SAT and ACT scores, as well as letters of recommendation, application essays, and interviews.

Supplemental Materials
After submitting the application, students can upload supplemental materials such as personal statements, letters of recommendation and resumes in their Clemson admissions portal.
Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available in the fall. The amount of need-related aid for which you are eligible is determined by the information you supply annually on the FAFSA. There is no separate application process for the majority of scholarships and aid at Clemson. Please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for additional information.
Enrollment
Admitted first-years for Fall have until May 1 to choose whether or not to enroll. Some students are admitted to the Summer term. Students admitted to the Spring semester will enroll at Clemson in January. Students may choose to take courses at another institution during the Fall semester and enroll as a transfer student. A limited number of students will be offered a place on Clemson’s waitlist.
Special Programs
There are a few extra requirements for some specific majors. An audition is required for students interested in pursuing music or theater concentrations. Applications for the PGA Golf Management concentration must demonstrate evidence of a playing proficiency. Students are encouraged to select two different intended majors. If you are not admissible in your first choice, we automatically consider your second.
