Both the professional core and major concentration areas are challenging as students are required to have fingerprinting and background checks and complete over 150 hours of field work in a VPK through third grade setting. Students are also required to develop a professional portfolio and pass three Florida Teacher Certification Exams (GK, PED, & PK-3). The Capstone of the B.S. program is a student teaching internship.

As a teaching lab school, children benefit from the school readiness program prepared and implemented by our highly trained early childhood staff. Students also benefit from HC students enrolled in the Early Childhood classes. Our mission is to provide students, staff and faculty with campus-based, affordable and accessible quality childcare for children ages two to five years old. The center’s philosophy is based on a developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) model. The Child Development Center is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
