One example is the CREATE® Competition, a hands-on program that immerses high school students in the world of architecture, engineering, and construction. Over 10 weeks, students act as design professionals, responding to a Request for Proposal (RFP) and developing their mock project with guidance from industry mentors.
The CREATE® Competition involves visiting active job sites, tackling client challenges, building physical models, developing floor plans and budgets, and presenting a final vision to experts. Students also explore skilled trades at an immersive Trades Day, gaining insights into careers in the built environment.
Another impactful initiative is the Design Build Competition®, where high school teams design and construct a 96-square-foot structure from the ground up. This experience allows students to use real tools and professional equipment, exploring various career paths under the guidance of industry professionals. Interactive stations led by industry pros, trade associations, and training programs allow students to ask questions, make connections, and discover how to turn their interests into well-paying careers.
