Understanding Coral Academy: Enrollment, Lottery, and Financial Aid

Coral Academy, a tuition-free public charter school, presents an educational option for students meeting Nevada's minimum age requirements. Enrollment is open to all eligible students, irrespective of intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, ethnicity, race, religion, disability, or immigration status. This article provides a detailed overview of the enrollment process, lottery system, required documentation, and financial aid opportunities at Coral Academy.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for enrollment at Coral Academy, students must meet specific age and grade-level requirements:

  • Kindergarten: A student must be 5 years old on or before August 1st of the year they wish to apply.
  • First Grade: A student who is 6 years old and has completed kindergarten is eligible to apply. A 7-year-old who has completed kindergarten but not first grade is also eligible for first grade.
  • Second Grade: A student who is 7 years old and has completed both kindergarten and first grade can apply for second grade.

Application and Lottery System

Coral Academy utilizes a lottery system to ensure fair and unbiased student selection. The application process and lottery dates are as follows:

  • Application Opening: September 1st annually.
  • Early Bird Kinder Lottery: First business day of November.
  • Lottery for Grades Pre-K, 1-12: First business day of February.

Applications submitted between September 1st and the lottery dates are included in the lottery. Subsequent applications are added to the end of the waitlist for each grade level. Once the school year commences, if a grade has available spaces based on grade-specific seat capacity and the number of returning students, a student can be enrolled immediately.

It is highly recommended to apply before the lottery dates to maximize the chances of securing a seat. Coral Academy uses SchoolMint, a third-party lottery program, to manage the lottery process.

Required Enrollment Documentation

Upon receiving an offer for enrollment, the following documents must be uploaded into the online registration system:

  • Current Immunization Record: Obtainable from a doctor's office or WebIZ.
  • Proof of Residence: A full-page document showing the service address, dated within 6 months, and in the legal parent/guardian's name. Accepted documents include utility bills (electric, gas, sewer, trash, or water) or a lease agreement.

Failure to provide complete and accurate information may result in the withdrawal of the lottery application or the student's enrollment. Coral Academy prioritizes the privacy of families and maintains strict confidentiality of personal details, including immigration status.

Financial Aid Opportunities

Key Point Academy is partnering with Clarity to manage financial aid applications and provide a consistent assessment of each family’s financial situation. Financial aid is available to students whose families demonstrate need. Please note that using Clarity does not guarantee financial assistance.
