C-TEC Adult Education Programs: Upgrading Skills for a Brighter Future

In today's rapidly evolving job market, technical training is more critical than ever. The majority of tomorrow’s jobs will demand a workforce equipped with specialized skills and knowledge. While many careers necessitate some form of post-secondary education, a traditional four-year college degree isn't always the only path to success. C-TEC's Adult Education Center provides accessible and efficient pathways for adults to enhance their skills and credentials, catering to both individual aspirations and employer needs.

Preparing for the Workforce and Higher Education

The technical curriculum at C-TEC's high school is designed to directly prepare students for entry into both the workforce and two- or four-year college degree programs. This dual approach ensures that students have options and are well-prepared for whichever path they choose.

Meeting the Needs of Adults and Employers

Many adults seek to upgrade their skills and credentials in a way that is faster, more effective, and more affordable. Simultaneously, employers are looking for ways to upskill their workforce quickly and efficiently, often requiring training solutions that can be implemented around the clock. C-TEC’s Adult Education Center addresses these needs by providing superior customer service and flexible learning options.

Transitions at Any Stage of Life

At C-TEC, the focus is on helping students make successful transitions, regardless of their current stage in life. Whether someone is looking to start a new career, advance in their current field, or simply learn something new, C-TEC offers programs and resources to support their goals.

What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is an employer-driven, “earn while you learn” model. It combines paid, on-the-job training with job-related academic instruction, equipping apprentices with the skills necessary to excel in their chosen trade. This model allows individuals to gain practical experience while also receiving theoretical knowledge, making them highly valuable to employers.

CTECS Apprenticeship Training Programs

The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) offers apprenticeship training programs at seven locations across the state, with courses available both online and in person. These programs are accessible to both registered and non-registered apprentices, and CTECS provides affordable tuition compared to many other schools.

Even if you’re not a registered apprentice, you can still take classes as an extension student. The course credit can be used toward future apprenticeship requirements, or you can simply take a class to learn something new. CTECS delivers the classroom (related instruction) portion of apprenticeship training-these are the hours required to qualify for a license in your trade. However, apprentices are still responsible for completing hands-on, on-the-job training with an employer sponsor. All CTECS coursework is approved by the State of Connecticut.

Full-Time Day Technical Programs

Adult students who have graduated high school can study in one of seven technical full-time day programs offered at the Bristol Technical Education Center in Bristol, CT. These programs provide in-depth training in various technical fields, preparing students for immediate entry into the workforce.

Financial Assistance for Veterans

Eligible veterans can utilize Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Post 9/11 G.I. Bill® (Ch. 33) or Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Ch. 31) benefits, while payment to the institution is pending from the VA. This support helps veterans access the training they need to transition into civilian careers.

CTECS offers a wide array of courses in both licensed and non-licensed trades.

Licensed Trade Areas

CTECS provides comprehensive training in various licensed trade areas, ensuring that students meet the requirements for licensure in their chosen field.

Non-Licensed Trades: Manufacturing & Welding

In addition to licensed trades, CTECS also offers hands-on training in manufacturing at three locations: Bristol TEC, Kaynor Tech, and Norwich Tech. These in-person programs prepare students for entry-level jobs in the manufacturing industry. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a manufacturing environment.
