The Center for Student Success

The Center for Student Success is a central hub for academic support, providing students with resources that support their transition to university learning, strengthen their academic endeavors, explore majors and other plans of study, and develop essential skills that lead to academic success. Students experience learning in a variety of ways in the Center by participating in academic coaching, study skills workshops, tutoring and supplemental instruction. The center provides students with a host of resources.

Free Tutoring Services

UAB offers free course-specific tutoring to its students in both a one-on-one or group format. Math Learning Lab tutors can assist with your math coursework. Work with writing tutors on papers, essays, and assignments. Access free tutoring across a variety of subjects.

Campus Dining and Meal Plans

Fueling your body is essential for academic success and overall well-being. UAB provides various dining options and meal plan choices to suit different needs and preferences.

Campus Dining Fee

All full time undergraduate students are assessed a $225 Campus Dining Fee during Fall and Spring semesters. These funds can be used for food purchases at all UAB campus restaurant locations. Funds are accessed by using the UAB ONE Card.

Meal Plan Options

Any student may select a meal plan option, but ALL students living on campus are required to select a meal plan. Explore meal plans, dining locations, and hours of operation.

It is easy to get involved at UAB through Engage. Engage is the online community for UAB students and student organizations. Traditions and Events

UAB has many traditions. But some of our favorite include gurneys, food, fancy footwork, and being a service to our community. Meet different people. Events range from enjoying new release films at our Film Series, engaging in critical conversations through our Lecture Series, enjoying a night out with friends at HSC LIVE! events, involvement in student organizations, cheering on the Blazers, writing for the Kaleidoscope student newspaper, rappelling down a cliff, hiking the Grand Canyon, and so much more!

Housing and Residence Life

The housing on campus here’s pretty sweet. Really sweet. It has 24/7 security and all sorts of amenities, plus you couldn’t ask for a better location. Students benefit from vibrant, inclusive communities with a low student to staff ration, faculty interaction, a completely alcohol-and tobacco-free environment in our first year residence halls, plus personal development programs addressing common issues college students face. Each residence hall has a residence life coordinator, which is a professional full-time staff member, who oversees each hall or area, and student staff members known as resident assistants handle floor administration and enforce housing policies. Health and Well-being

UAB prioritizes the health and well-being of its students, offering a comprehensive range of services to support their physical and mental health.

Counseling Services

Blazer Kitchen

Student Assistance & Support also coordinates Blazer Kitchen at Hill Student Center, one of the University's two on campus food pantry locations. Open to any active UAB student, the location provides access to perishable and non-perishable food, school supplies, and personal hygiene items. Title IX Office

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Division of Student Affairs oversees the University’s compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The Title IX Office works with students, University administration, departments, faculty, staff, campus police, and other support services to ensure that University policies and programs foster a campus community free of sex discrimination including gender-based assault, harassment, exploitation, dating and domestic violence, stalking as well as discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identify and gender expression, and related retaliation.

Parking Services

If your student plans on bringing a car to campus during the academic year they must register their vehicle with UAB Parking and Transportation Services. Students will receive a parking permit which designates the specific lots they may park in. All fees for parking permits are assessed onto their student fees. There are metered spots available on campus, through rates may vary. Purchase permits and find information about campus parking.

Student Assistance and Support

Student Assistance & Support supports students through life challenges and connects them with university and community supports to best address their diverse needs. Student Assistance & Support provides individualized assistance to promote student safety and well-being, collaboration and resilience, personal accountability, and self-advocacy. Our team consults and collaborates with campus partners to balance the needs of individual students with those of the overall campus community. Additional information is available by stopping by 303 Hill Student Center, visiting uab.edu/students/assistance, or calling 205-975-9509. This office is here for students when they encounter barriers to their success, it also is the home for the UAB Student Code of Conduct.

UAB One Card

The UAB one card serves as a student’s key to campus from providing access to residence halls and campus recreation, to serving as their dining card, and so much more.

Parent/Guest Access

Through Parent/Guest Access, your student can grant five individuals access to vital information on their UAB record. This information includes the typical details that parent’s need to stay “in the know” regarding their student’s records. Have your student log into Blazernet and select the Links/Forms tab. Under the Links column, click Parent/Guest Authorization Agreement. Parent/Guest Access must be renewed annually by the student. To view your student’s financial aid information, your student must grant you access to their account information through their BlazerNet account.

Important Academic Resources
