Opportunities for Dallas ISD Students
Dallas ISD is partnering with Dallas College and Institutes of Higher Education to expand opportunities for students. The P-TECH and Early College High Schools/Collegiate Academies are designed to serve incoming ninth-grade students with the determination to attend college. These programs target first-generation college students and those historically underrepresented in higher education. Students are accepted into the program as freshmen, beginning in ninth grade. Each school partners with a higher education institution and offers an academic pathway leading to an Associate of Arts, Associate of Applied Science, or Associate of Science degree.
Free Job Training Programs
Dallas College’s WorkReadyU job training program offers accessible pathways to develop in-demand job skills for in-demand career paths, absolutely free. The program provides weekend and evening classes, with some including paid internships and free job placement assistance.
Career Paths Offered
WorkReadyU covers a multitude of career paths, including:
- Certified Nursing Assistant: Provides basic patient care and usually receives on-the-job training.
- Community Health Care Worker: Members of the community are selected to provide basic health care to the community.
- Welding: A technical and creative art with facets in tooling, drafting, pattern layout, metal sculpture, decorative ironwork, and technical sales.
- Software Application Specialist: Supports software systems for various clients.
- Office Assistant: Responsible for routine tasks and ensuring the office runs smoothly.
- CompTIA: Grow your technical knowledge and expand your career in computer support.
- Early Childhood Development: Expands your knowledge and provides skills to help you change the lives of young children.
- Entrepreneurship: Prepare to start, develop, learn finance, and manage new ventures with high growth rates.
GED Preparation
For individuals who didn't complete high school, WorkReadyU offers a path to earn a GED. The program features caring instructors who provide small GED classes and hands-on learning to improve academic skills. It’s never too late to earn your GED and the WorkReadyU program can help you achieve that goal.
