DCTC Student Resources and Services: A Comprehensive Guide

Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) is committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment for its students. Beyond the classroom, a wide array of resources and services are available to help students succeed academically, personally, and professionally. This article provides a comprehensive overview of these offerings, designed to help students navigate their college journey and make the most of their DCTC experience.

Academic Support Services

DCTC recognizes that academic success is paramount. Several resources are in place to assist students in achieving their educational goals.

Center for Student Success

The Center for Student Success is a central hub for academic assistance. The Center for Student Success also serves as DCTC’s Tutoring Center for those students seeking assistance in subject areas such as Accounting, English/Reading/Writing and Mathematics. The Center for Student Success staff can provide some assistance to students trying to navigate through D2L/Brightspace - the student portal to their classes, including those that are entirely online.

Tutoring Services

Students seeking assistance in specific subject areas can find support through the Tutoring Center, located within the Center for Student Success. Tutors are available to help with subjects such as Accounting, English/Reading/Writing, and Mathematics.

Technology Access

Although no longer a large computer lab, the Center for Student Services does have some PCs and laptop computers available for students to use within the Center. The Center for Student Services can serve as a place for students to study whether at one of our PCs or laptops, laptop stations or study desks/modular chairs.

Student Support Services (SSS) Program

The Student Support Services program provides academic development, advising and success strategies toward graduation. Available to eligible DCTC students who are first-generation, meet income guidelines low income, and/or have a disability. The TRIO tutor and TRIO computer lab are also located within the Center.

Disability Services

Enrolled DCTC students may be eligible for services if they have a documented disability that significantly limits one or more major life activities.

Library Resources

The library provides resources to students, such as book rental, access to research, study spaces, and technology loans.

Testing Center

The Testing Center is available to take the Accuplacer, HESI, TEAS, accommodations for exams and make up exams.

Elevate your college journey with Student Life. Our vibrant community offers a variety of opportunities to connect, grow, and have fun. Student Life fosters a sense of belonging and provides valuable networking opportunities. Participating in Student Life activities can give students the edge to set themselves apart in the job search upon graduating.

Student Life Funding and Activities

Student Life is funded through the Student Activity Fee and encompasses student clubs and organizations; Blue Knights athletics; the Student Senate; Student Ambassadors; Campus Orientation Day!; a variety of campus activities and programming, and the Student Life Center and Wellness Center. Through Student Life activities, students can also participate in hands-on initiatives for the betterment of our campus and community.

Leadership and Extracurricular Opportunities

DCTC has a variety of leadership, social, and academic clubs and organizations to be a part of! Student Life provides opportunities for students to build their resume with valuable leadership skills and experience applicable to their future career, and to expand their network with professionals in industry who may serve as a future job reference or provide letters of recommendation. Student Senate

The Student Senate is the official voice of the student body and consults with campus administration on issues affecting students, approves the Student Life budget, plans campus activities, and promotes Student Life activities to the campus.

Athletics

DCTC offers many opportunities for students to participate in varsity athletics. A member of the National Junior College Athletic Association, or NJCAA, DCTC offers varsity competition in the following sports: Men’s Baseball, Basketball, and Soccer, and Women’s Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball.

Student Life Center and Wellness Center

The Student Life Center and outdoor patio space offer students a place to relax, socialize or study between classes. The Wellness Center is a workout facility on campus for students and provides a variety of weight machines, cardio machines and free weights. To utilize the center, students must be currently enrolled in the college. The Wellness Center is a workout facility available to DCTC students.

Multicultural Center

The Multicultural Center is a place to meet others and learn from students of all cultures and backgrounds. The Center provides cultural programming and functions as a campus-wide resource for students from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Food and Resource Center

Dakota County Technical College offers a Food and Resource Center on campus. Fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food items are available.

Campus Security

Campus Security oversees the safety of DCTC by responding to emergency situations, maintaining health and safety standards, and managing the campus-wide alert system.

Campus Store

At the Campus Store, you can purchase a variety of items, including DCTC apparel and gear, snacks, and certain items required for your classes.

Military & Veteran Services

The Military & Veteran Services office supports military connected students while pursuing a degree.
