A History of DePaul University Softball

The DePaul Blue Demons softball team proudly represents DePaul University in the realm of college softball, competing at the Division I level of the NCAA. As a member of the Big East Conference (Big East) since the 2006 season, the team showcases its talent and dedication at Cacciatore Stadium, their home field located on campus in Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois.

Early Years and Foundational Leadership

The early chapters of DePaul's softball history are shrouded in some obscurity, with comprehensive records proving elusive. However, it is known that Tina Brown, a pivotal figure as the first Senior Women's Administrator for the women's basketball program, also took on the mantle of the first head coach, guiding the team from 1976 to 1978. The Blue Demons played their inaugural games on April 22, 1978, facing off against Northern Illinois and Western Illinois.

In 1979, Jeannie Lenti briefly served as head coach for a single season, while concurrently holding the position of Athletic Director at DePaul since 1975. The team would later achieve a measure of redemption by defeating Northern Illinois in a doubleheader on April 12, 1981, securing their first two victories in program history with scores of 6-5 and 4-1.

The Lenti Era: Building a Legacy

The 1985 season marked a significant milestone as DePaul experienced its first full season, achieving a winning record of 33-18. Jeannie Lenti's return to the head coach position in 1990 ushered in an era of sustained success, including four seasons with 50 or more wins in 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2008.

The 1999 season stands out as the program's best, with an impressive 22-0 record in conference play and an overall mark of 54-14 (.794). Lenti guided the team to remarkable winning streaks, including an 18-game streak in 2014, 19 games in 2001, and a program-best 20 consecutive wins in 2007. By 2015, Lenti had solidified her place as one of the winningest coaches in college softball history, finishing her tenure at DePaul with a remarkable record of 1,236-604-6 (.671).

A New Chapter: The Bouck-Jagielski Era

Following Adix-Zins's departure, DePaul University announced on June 11, 2024, the appointment of Liz Bouck-Jagielski as the team's next head coach. Bouck-Jagielski brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as an assistant coach at Roosevelt University.
