That's why they offer scholarships to young runners in the Greater Cincinnati area who exemplify these values. If you're a high school cross country or track & field athlete with a passion for giving back, the Flying Pig Scholarship could be your ticket to financial assistance for college.
A Generous Boost: The Scholarship Details
What began as four one-time $2,500 scholarships has grown to $20,000 ($5,000/year) scholarships thanks to the Bob and Jeanne Coughlin Foundation and Skyline Chili. These $20,000 scholarships ($5,000/year) will be awarded to 14+ high school students who are members of their high school’s cross country or track & field team.
Who Can Apply? Key Eligibility Requirements
Before you start filling out the application, make sure you meet all the necessary requirements. Your application will not be considered if it is found that all requirements are not met. Here's a breakdown of the eligibility criteria:
- Location, Location, Location: You must be enrolled and attend high school in the Greater Cincinnati area.
- Team Player: Applicants must be members of their high school’s cross country or track & field team.
- Recommendation: You must include 1 contact for a recommendation. This must be from a school staff member including a teacher, coach, principal, athletic director or counselor.

Flying Pig Community Scholarship winners will be announced in April and an award ceremony will be held with more information to follow. Scholarship winners will be invited to attend a celebratory breakfast and award ceremony. Furthermore, all winners will also receive an $100 Skyline Chili gift card!

External Scholarship Opportunities
While the Flying Pig Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity, it's always wise to explore other avenues for financial aid. Here are a few examples of national and state scholarships that may be relevant:
- Derrick Law Firm Car & Truck Accident Injury Scholarship: This scholarship provides $1000 to any high school or university student in the United States. This scholarship is now available to any high school senior in the United States that desires to apply. Dedication, teamwork, service to their community and a passion for running are the necessary qualifying attributes. All scholarship applications must be submitted by April 1, 2020, with an accompanying essay and recommendation letter.
- KEDC Scholarship Fund: This scholarship requires a 3.0 or higher GPA, meeting college benchmarks in Math, Reading, and English, a written essay, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarship is $2500 and deadline to apply is April 1, 2020 and the recipient will be notified by May 1, 2020. All candidates must agree to appear at the Fleming-Mason Energy’s Annual Meeting. All applicants must complete a typed 500 word essay.
- PB&J Scholarship: This scholarship offers between $500 and $1,000, with a deadline of May 31st.
