Overview of the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program
The Foot Locker Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting young individuals who excel both on and off the field. The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program honors student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and strong leadership skills in sports, in their schools, and within their communities. Whether you’re the lead scorer or the most spirited team player, we want to hear how you have taken the skills you’ve cultivated in the locker room and used to them create a powerful, positive impact on the lives of others around you.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Foot Locker Foundation will be awarding 20 incoming college freshman with $20,000 in scholarship funding through the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program. Twenty Foot Locker Scholar Athletes will each receive $20,000 in college scholarship money for their excellence in school, on their sports teams, and in their communities.
As a bonus, one of our 20 winners will be selected for the Ken C. Hicks scholarship for demonstrating superior educational achievement, outstanding leadership, and a true love of the game. This winner will receive an additional $5,000 award. 19 students will be awarded $20,000, plus one student will be awarded $25,000 with the Ken C. Hicks Scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
The Foot Locker Scholarship is open to outstanding student-athletes who are active in their schools and communities. We’re searching for applicants who are strong on and off the field; students who have excellent records of community service, academics, and athletics.

To be eligible, applicants must:
- Embody good sportsmanship and strong moral character. Foot Locker Scholar Athletes are trusted and respected members of their schools and communities.
- Display academic excellence.
- Are passionate and committed to empowering the community they live in.
- Are confident and enthusiastic about being a leader. Foot Locker Scholar Athletes aren’t reluctant role models.
- Come from diverse backgrounds.
- Must have hit a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Should regularly participate in high school, intramural, or community sports.
Students do not need to be varsity athletes or intend to play their sport(s) in college.
Citizenship: only U.S. citizens and legal residents can apply. Can international students apply?

Foot Locker Scholarship 2025 Application Process:
- Create an account on the Foot Locker Foundation scholarship portal.
- Do well to fill out the online application with personal and academic details.
- Submit your transcripts
- You’d need to provide proof of sports involvement.
- Write personal essays on leadership and community service.
- Submit recommendation letters from teachers, coaches, or community leaders.
- Verify community service hours.
The application consists of basic information like name, high school, sports played, test scores etc., as well as two 300-500 word essays and one non-family member recommendation.
NOTE: The program key for the Foot Locker Scholarship is ScholarAthletes. (There is a separate application for employees.
Essay Questions
Both of these essay questions need to be answered in 500 words or less:Open to High School Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors! Sports teach important lessons in leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
