What is the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program?

The Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program honors student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and strong leadership skills in sports, in their schools, and within their communities. The program seeks to identify individuals who have cultivated skills in the locker room and used them to create a powerful, positive impact on the lives of others around them.

Each year, twenty outstanding student-athletes are selected to receive $20,000 in college scholarship money, distributed as $5,000 per year for four years. As a bonus, one of the twenty winners will be selected for the Ken C. Hicks scholarship for demonstrating superior educational achievement, outstanding leadership, and a true love of the game. This winner will receive an additional $5,000 award.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program, applicants must meet specific criteria:

  1. Residency: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or legal residents. International students are not eligible.
  2. Academic Standing: Applicants should have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. High School Enrollment: The scholarship is open to high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors!

Application Process

The Foot Locker Scholarship is open to outstanding student-athletes who are active in their schools and communities - Apply Now! To apply for the Foot Locker Scholar Athletes program, follow these steps:

  1. Create an Account: Create an account on the Foot Locker Foundation scholarship portal. NOTE: The program key for the Foot Locker Scholarship is ScholarAthletes. (There is a separate application for employees.
  2. Complete the Online Application: Do well to fill out the online application with personal and academic details.
  3. Submit Transcripts: Provide your high school transcripts as part of the application.
  4. Proof of Sports Involvement: You’d need to provide proof of sports involvement.
  5. Write Personal Essays: Write personal essays on leadership and community service. Both of these essay questions need to be answered in 500 words or less.
  6. Submit Recommendation Letters: Submit recommendation letters from teachers, coaches, or community leaders. The application consists of basic information like name, high school, sports played, test scores etc., as well as two 300-500 word essays and one non-family member recommendation.
