Unlock Your Potential: Internship Opportunities at Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech internships provide invaluable opportunities for students to gain practical experience in their fields, discern their interests in specific careers, and cultivate a professional network. These experiences bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, setting students on a path to success.
The Georgia Tech Internship Program: A Bridge to Your Future
The Georgia Institute of Technology Internship Program is meticulously designed as an academic program to augment a student’s formal education with practical work experience. This program acts as a conduit, connecting classroom knowledge with hands-on application in a professional setting.
Commitment and Duration
Involvement in the GT Internship program necessitates a commitment of full-time or part-time employment. The duration is a minimum of 14 weeks for the fall or spring semesters, or a minimum of 8 weeks for the summer term, ensuring a substantial and immersive experience. Interns typically dedicate one semester to their internship, but the program offers the flexibility of participating in multiple internships. In certain instances, students have the opportunity to work for two consecutive terms, allowing for deeper engagement and more comprehensive learning.
Academic Considerations During Your Internship
Balancing academic pursuits with internship responsibilities requires careful planning.
Taking Georgia Tech Courses
If you choose to take a Georgia Tech course while working a full-time internship, it is imperative to gain the approval of both your GT Career Development Advisor and your supervisor before registering. This ensures that your academic and professional commitments are in alignment and that you can effectively manage both.

Enrolling in Courses at Other Universities
If you plan to take a class at another university while interning, make sure that your supervisor approves of you taking the course and that the class time doesn’t interfere with your work schedule. Be aware that you cannot transfer credit for a course that you previously took at Georgia Tech.
Maintaining Full-Time Student Status
Insurance companies often require proof of full-time student status. While interning, you will be registered for a tuition-free, 12-hour audit course that allows you to maintain your full-time status. This ensures that you continue to meet the requirements for insurance coverage and other benefits associated with being a full-time student.
Housing Options During Your Internship
Securing suitable housing is a key consideration for students undertaking internships.
On-Campus Housing
If you are co-oping or interning in metro Atlanta, you may live in campus housing, if available. This provides a convenient and familiar living environment, allowing you to focus on your work and studies.
Housing Assistance from Employers
Students working outside the area will find that most employers offer some level of housing assistance. Such assistance ranges from providing students with a list of apartments in the area to arranging furnished housing and paying for a portion of the expenses. This support can significantly ease the financial burden and logistical challenges of securing accommodation in a new location.
