GPA Expectations
A GPA of 3.76 requires you to be above average in your high school class. Successful applicants typically have a mix of A's and B's, with a leaning toward A's. While a high GPA is advantageous, Purdue also considers the rigor of your coursework. Taking challenging classes, such as AP or IB courses, can demonstrate your preparedness for college-level academics and potentially compensate for a slightly lower GPA.

What if Your GPA is Below Average?
If your GPA is at or below the school average of 3.76, you'll need a higher SAT score to compensate and show that you're prepared to take on college academics. If you're a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on.
Standardized Testing: SAT and ACT
Purdue requires applicants to submit either SAT or ACT scores as part of their application. While Purdue may state that they do not have a strict SAT score cutoff, a "hidden" SAT requirement exists.
SAT Scores
The recommended SAT requirements for Purdue are a 1300 to 1350 composite score, combining the reading and writing, and math sections together. The 25th percentile SAT score is 1210, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1470. In other words, a 1210 places you below average, while a 1470 will move you up to above average.
Purdue superscores the SAT, meaning they consider the highest section scores from multiple test dates. This allows you to focus your preparation on individual sections and retake the test to improve your overall score. If your SAT superscore is currently below a 1350, you should consider prepping for the SAT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the SAT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.
ACT Scores
The average ACT score at Purdue is 29. The 25th percentile ACT score is 27, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 34. Even though Purdue likely says they have no minimum ACT requirement, if you apply with a 27 or below, you'll have a very hard time getting in, unless you have something else very impressive in your application. Purdue is understood to superscore the ACT. Even though the highest ACT composite you scored on any one test date was 20, Purdue will take your highest section score from all your test dates, then combine them to form your Superscore. This is important for your testing strategy. Because you can choose which tests to send in, and Purdue forms your Superscore, you can take the ACT as many times as you want, then submit only the tests that give you the highest Superscore. Therefore, if your ACT score is currently below a 29, we strongly recommend that you consider prepping for the ACT and retaking it. Even better, because of the Superscore, you can focus all your energy on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, prep only for the Reading section, then take the ACT. Then focus on Math for the next test, and so on.

Prompt #1 is a straightforward extracurricular essay. Try to avoid writing about an activity you’ve detailed in your Personal Statement. Seize this opportunity to show off another side of you! Be sure to think about impact: did you raise money for a cause? If so, how much? Did you implement a new program or initiative through a school club or organization? Did you teach a student or mentee a specific skill or concept?
Prompt #2 is a very short “Why Us?” essay. You want to show why Purdue is right for you, but also why you are right for Purdue. What values will you bring to campus that make you a standout candidate? Avoid writing about the school’s size, locations, reputation, or ranking.
Prompt #3 is a classic “Why Major?” essay. Prioritize information over poetry. Get straight to the point at the top of your essay and tell us why you want to study physics at Purdue specifically. What research opportunities excite you? Are there professors whose work/area of expertise excites you? Is there a specialized certificate or dual-degree program that will support your interests?

Admissions Regular Application Due January 15.
Application Requirements
High school GPA is required. High school rank is considered but not required. College prep courses are required. SAT/ACT scores are required. Recommendations are recommended.
Additional Information for Prospective Students
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions offers PNW Preview Days and Express Admission Days (EAD), and provides guided virtual and in-person campus tours and pre-admissions counseling appointments. Purdue University Northwest accepts credit from regionally accredited institutions for college level classes in which the student has received a grade of C- or better.
Scholarship Opportunities
Scholarship recipients will be notified with a week of receiving their admission decision and need to accept their scholarship within the following month. The scholarship is renewable for up to 4 consecutive years (8 semesters). Scholarship renewal will be assessed at the end of Spring semester. Those with 3.0 cumulative GPA and successful completion of at least 24 credit hours will be automatically renewed for the following academic year.
Dual Credit and Concurrent Enrollment
Dual credit and concurrent enrollment programs are partnerships between an individual high school or high school corporation and a particular college or university. In Indiana, dual credit courses are those which high school students may take to earn both high school and college credits. If students choose a dual credit course NOT on the CTL or on the courses listed by ICI, they should contact the college they plan to attend to see if the course can be transferred to that institution. If you have taken dual credit courses outside of PNW, official transcripts from those institutions need to be sent to PNW by contacting the outside institution directly.
International Students
International Undergraduate Student Application. Students who have not attended a previous university must submit a non-refundable $25 application fee. Transfer students must submit a non-refundable application fee of $55. If you did not take, or have low English test scores for entry into a degree-seeking program, you may still be eligible for admission to the Purdue University Northwest’s English Language Program (ELP), located at the Hammond campus.
Criteria for Admission
The Office of Admissions will base your admission eligibility on the following criteria: Minimum high school GPA of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale Successful completion of a Core 40 diploma (for Indiana residents) or a strong college-prep curriculum SAT or ACT exam scores (not required but strongly recommended for engineering students) Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores, if applicable
Adult Learners
If you’ve been out of high school for more than two years, you’re considered an adult learner.
Transcripts
Official transcripts must be received and processed by the Office of the Registrar.
