Navigating the Hudson Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide for Parents and Guardians

The Hudson Student Portal serves as a vital link between the school district and parents/guardians, providing easy access to important information regarding their child's academic progress and well-being. This article aims to provide a comprehensive guide to navigating the portal and understanding the various resources available to parents.

Understanding the Parent Portal

The Parent Portal is a computer-based online system designed to empower parents/guardians with convenient access to their child's school-related information. Through the portal, parents can view their child’s attendance records, class schedules, grades, progress reports, and any disciplinary referrals issued. This centralized access promotes transparency and facilitates greater parental involvement in their child's education.

Attendance and Absence Reporting

Maintaining accurate attendance records is crucial for student success and safety. If your child is absent for ANY reason, it is imperative to fill out a Reporting Student Absence Form. This form allows parents to indicate the reason for their child's absence from either in-person or virtual school.

The Hudson City School District prioritizes the safety and well-being of all students. Due to current COVID-19 safety protocols, it is vitally important for schools to have accurate absence information on file. Your cooperation and partnership in providing this information are greatly appreciated and contribute to the health and safety of the entire school community.

Food Services and Nutritional Support

The Hudson City School District is committed to ensuring that all students have access to nutritious meals. All Hudson students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 are eligible to receive FREE school breakfast and lunch. Click here for the cafeteria menus.

School Calendars and Faculty Pages

Staying informed about important dates and school events is essential for effective planning. Individual school calendars are located on the respective school pages.

Some teachers maintain faculty pages with information related to their specific classes. These pages may include announcements, assignments, and other resources to help students succeed in their coursework.

Understanding FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. FERPA affords parents and students over 18 years of age certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. This includes the right to inspect and review their education records, the right to request that inaccurate or misleading information be corrected, and the right to consent to the disclosure of personally identifiable information from their education records.

Parents/guardians who object to the release of their child’s name, grade level, photograph, etc. should notify the school administration.

New York State Parent Dashboard

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has developed a Parent Dashboard to increase transparency and make information about school performance and other school-level data easier for parents and the public to access. The Parent Dashboard offers information on all public schools including charter schools. We invite parents and other stakeholders to explore the Parent Dashboard and then provide feedback via an online feedback survey available in 17 languages.

Parent Guidance Resources

Parents/guardians now have free access to dozens of online resources covering many topics to support their child’s learning. Parent Guidance: On-demand access to training videos for parenting and other mental health issues. These resources can provide valuable support and guidance on a variety of topics related to child development, education, and well-being.

Support for Students Experiencing Homelessness

If your family is in a temporary or inadequate living situation due to a loss of housing, your child might be eligible for certain educational rights and services under the McKinney-Vento Act. This act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have equal access to a free and appropriate public education. If you need assistance, please use this referral form.

School Closings and Emergency Communication

In the event of school closings, emergency incidents, or early dismissals, the Superintendent has the authority to close school. Maintaining a Safe and Secure Learning Environment

The Hudson City School District strives to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. As part of these efforts, all visitors are required to show photo identification before entering our schools during regular school hours (effective November 26, 2018).
