Academic Opportunities at Hull

The University of Hull provides undergraduate students the opportunity to enroll in regular university classes with British students across six faculties. Students can participate for a single semester or the entire academic year. A full-time load typically consists of 60 Hull credits.

Course Selection

The University at Albany’s exchange agreement with the University at Hull allows students to directly enroll in either of the two campuses, one in Hull city and the other in Scarborough, just north of Hull. You will see that there are a number of opportunities at the University of Hull. While a wide range of courses are available, it's important to note that exchange students cannot take modules in Law, Psychology, or Medicine. All courses successfully completed through this program abroad that are not assigned a specific UAlbany course equivalency will at least count as UAlbany General Elective credits.

Important Academic Policies

It is important to be aware of the University of Hull's policy regarding grade ratification. ALL students (including study abroad students) have their grades formally ratified in the summer, when Trimester 2 students have also completed their studies.

Accommodation

The University of Hull boasts a selection of accommodation choices on campus, featuring a variety of housing options consisting of both university dorm options and private flats. The Accommodations team will help you look into housing should you want to live off campus. Most often, depending on where you live, you will be cooking meals for yourself. Some housings have what is called semi-self-catering.

Eligibility and Application

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are eligible to participate. Applications are welcome from students in all majors. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required. Upon acceptance to the program, you will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation. During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet other program participants, discuss in-depth the details of your program, and prepare for the overall education abroad experience. The fall semester pre-departure orientation will be conducted mid-to-late May, and in late November/early December for the spring term abroad. Upon arrival at the University of Hull, you will attend a mandatory program orientation.

Visa Requirements

Citizens going to the United Kingdom to study have specific visa requirements depending on the length of their stay. If you are going to the United Kingdom to study for 6 months or less, you will get a Short-term Study visa (upon entry into the United Kingdom). If you are going to the United Kingdom to study for more than 6 months, you will have to obtain a Tier 4 (General) visa.
