Registration Information
Registration Dates and Times
Winter/Spring registration dates and times are posted on My.IllinoisState.edu. It is crucial to pay close attention to your registration start time, as there are multiple start times. Registration dates and times are determined based on the number of credit hours you have earned (excluding in-progress units). Note that registration is not an advising appointment.
Course Permits (Overrides)
Beginning August 23, students need a course permit (override) to register for any course that has already started. Students can request a course permit (override) in their My.IllinoisState.edu account by selecting the Academics tab and scrolling down to the Registration section. To register for a course after August 29, please fill out the Late Registration Request Form in your My.IllinoisState.edu account.
Winter Session Registration
Illinois State University offers online accelerated Winter Session classes to students. To register for a Winter Session course, current students must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA). Students admitted for the preceding Fall term or upcoming Spring term qualify for Winter session enrollment. Students are limited to registering for one class per Winter session. There is no priority registration for Winter session. Credit hours taken during the Winter session will be applied to the spring semester's total academic load.

Students will take most General Education courses during their freshman and sophomore years, along with some courses in their major or other elective courses. While some specific courses are important to take as part of preparation for a major (such as certain mathematics or science courses), the choice of which course to take in each category is a decision for students to make. Because of laboratory or recitation requirements, some courses are listed as four or five credit hours in this catalog.
Pass/No Pass Option
No Group 1 course may be taken under the P/NP option.
