Internship Program Overview

Imperative Care's internship program provides students with invaluable hands-on experience in the dynamic medical device industry, working with state-of-the-art equipment, instruments, and facilities. The program is designed to give interns foundational experience and exposure to a variety of roles and areas of focus to help prepare them for a career in medtech. Available Internship Positions

Imperative Care offers a range of internship positions across various departments. All positions are based in the Campbell, California offices, on-site & full-time. Note that Imperative Care does not provide relocation or additional housing compensation for the summer internship. Here's a glimpse into some of the available roles:

Product Marketing Intern, Stroke

This position works alongside the stroke product management and product marketing teams and individually to assist in projects focused on achieving stroke product marketing business goals. Responsibilities may include:

  • Partnering cross-functionally with Product Management and Marketing to support day-to-day execution of stroke franchise priorities, including aspiration thrombectomy systems and neurovascular catheter platforms.
  • Evaluating and substantiating marketing claims for Imperative Care products by reviewing existing internal claims and supporting evidence, comparing claim statements against available bench/clinical evidence
  • Conducting competitive product evaluations to help inform positioning and messaging
  • Analyzing test results and translating data into marketing insights, including creating clear interpretations that connect results to customer-relevant outcomes
  • Creating presentations to communicate aspiration system comparisons with slide decks for internal reviews, competitive comparisons and data-backed claim recommendations
  • Supporting new product launch deliverables for the stroke portfolio, such as product messaging frameworks and positioning summaries, sales tools, product overviews, and internal FAQs
  • Supporting event and meeting planning/execution, assisting with preparation, logistics and marketing materials

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of college-level coursework in an engineering, marketing or business discipline & a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for analyzing and visualizing data, report writing and presentations
  • Able to use visual tools such as Figma and Canva for visualizing ideas and creating content for marketing deliverables
  • Strong organizational skills: management of multiple priorities and timing
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective communication, and partnership with marketing and other departments

Quality Engineer Intern, Quality Operations

The individual will assist quality engineers on optimizing manufacturing processes and controls to be used to support production. Responsibilities may include:

  • Working with engineers and technicians to introduce new equipment to optimize quality inspection processes
  • Working with production and engineers on manufacturing process instruction improvements
  • Implementing a digitalization tracking tool to optimize trending of NCR metrics and data
  • Supporting issue resolution for production and assembly including root cause investigation and corrective action tracking.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Currently have or in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an engineering field (e.g. Bioengineering, Material Engineering, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering) & a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Strong understanding of engineering principals
  • Strong analytical and statistical knowledge
  • Knowledge in data querying and manipulation a plus
  • Strong organizational skills: management of multiple priorities and timing
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective communication, and partnership with other departments

Information Technology Intern (IT)

This position works alongside the Information technology team and business partners to assist on projects and initiatives spanning from the use of Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity innovation, Technology KPI measurement, and data structuring for automation. Responsibilities may include:

  • AI & Emerging Technology: Assist in researching, prototyping, documenting AI use cases across IT and business operations. Support development of simple AI-enabled workflows or proof-of-concepts to help articulate how AI can further drive business productivity and growth. Evaluate AI tools for productivity, automation, analytics, and decision support
  • Cybersecurity: Collaborate on the design of cybersecurity awareness concepts (e.g., phishing simulations, learning challenges, scoreboards) though novel approaches such as gamification. Assist in defining engagement metrics and success criteria for security training initiatives
  • KPI & Metrics Development: Research and recommend IT and cybersecurity KPIs aligned to risk and performance. Build structured dashboards or scorecards (conceptual or technical)
  • Data Structuring & Automation Readiness: Assist in organizing, cleaning, and structuring data to support automation initiatives. Document data flows, inputs, outputs, and ownership. Participate in early-stage automation efforts (RPA, workflow automation, reporting pipelines)
  • Strategy & Communication: Translate technical findings into clear business insights. Create presentations and summaries of your experiences while documenting go-forward processes and recommendations. Participate in IT planning meetings and project discussions

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of college-level coursework and pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Engineering, or related field & a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Exposure to AI/ML concepts or tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Python, APIs)
  • Interest in cybersecurity concepts and risk management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Comfort working with data (Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, Python, or similar)

R&D Intern - Sustaining

This position works alongside the engineering team and individually to assist in projects focused on neurovascular and peripheral product improvements for existing products within R&D. Responsibilities may include:

  • Participating in the design, development and prototyping of new concepts and test procedures
  • Designing, planning, and executing laboratory experiments to evaluate device safety
  • Reviewing test data against established acceptance criteria and write appropriate test reports
  • Interacting with engineers to understand product requirements
  • Documenting relevant information (i.e.., new ideas, test results, build procedure, etc.) in lab notebook according to good laboratory practices or company procedure
  • Assisting in bench lab work and on material efforts

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of college-level coursework in an engineering discipline & a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Familiar with R&D equipment used for prototyping common medical devices (hot boxes, adhesives, soldering, bonding, fuse joining)
  • Able to use SolidWorks for drawing and designing tooling, fixtures, devices and related items
  • Knowledge of materials (Polymers, Metals, Chemicals) as related to medical devices
  • Familiarity with CAD, machining, and rapid prototyping tools a plus tensile, simulated use, or other test methods related to the project
  • Strong organizational skills: management of multiple priorities and timing
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective communication, and partnership with R&D and other cross-functional departments

AI-Assisted System Development Intern

As a Summer Intern, you will support the development of an AI-assisted system that analyzes and summarizes workflow and driving performance in robotic-assisted medical procedures. You will work with real-world procedural data from our Roboto platform to define key events, develop workflow metrics, and prototype automated, AI-generated case summaries. Responsibilities may include:

  • Analyzing system logs, device data, and procedural video streams from robotic-assisted procedures to identify key events and milestones.
  • Defining and document workflow and performance metrics related to timing, frequency, and procedural efficiency across different phases.
  • Supporting the creation of event-based data snapshots (e.g., images or short video clips) to add context to procedural analysis.
  • Prototyping AI-generated reports and case summaries that highlight workflow patterns, system usage, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborating with engineering, product, and clinical teams to validate insights and refine analysis outputs.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in computer science, data science, biomedical engineering, robotics, or a related field.
  • Experience or coursework in data analysis, machine learning, or applied AI concepts
  • Familiarity with working on structured and unstructured data (e.g., logs, time-series data, images, or video).
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and the ability to translate data into clear, actionable insights.
  • Interest in medical devices, robotics, or healthcare applications of AI, with strong communication and documentation skills.

Salary and Benefits
