Indiana University Student Tickets: Record Demand and New Sales Process
Following an unprecedentedly successful 2024 football season, Indiana University has achieved record-setting ticket revenue for the 2025 season. Demand for student tickets is soaring, requiring new approaches to sales and distribution. This article delves into the details of student ticket availability, the factors driving the surge in interest, and the changes to the ticket sales process.
Unprecedented Demand for Football Tickets
The Indiana University Hoosiers are experiencing a surge in popularity, evidenced by record ticket sales and increased fan engagement. The student section season tickets have sold out for the first time in school history, reflecting heightened enthusiasm for the team. The student section, which accommodates over 11,000 fans, has seen preseason ticket sales increase by 50%, necessitating a cap on the section's capacity.
“We are really excited about that, the speed of those (student ticket) sales was another leading indicator of the increased interest in this team,” said Jeremy Gray, senior associate athletic director for strategic communications.
The Hoosiers are scheduled to play seven home games in the 2025 season, and the first conference game of the season, against Illinois on Sept. 20, is already sold out. This heightened demand underscores the excitement surrounding the team's prospects and the desire of students to be part of the game-day experience.
Record-Breaking Revenue and Increased Interest
Beyond the student section, Indiana University has surpassed its overall ticket revenue record, generating more than $13 million so far. The previous record was $12.8 million. This figure excludes revenue from personal seat donation fees applied to season ticket holders, indicating even greater financial success.

"Ticket sales have been phenomenal,” said Indiana athletic director Scott Dolson.
The surge in ticket sales reflects a broader trend of increasing interest in Indiana University athletics. The successful 2024 football season has undoubtedly played a significant role in driving this enthusiasm, leading to greater demand for tickets across all seating sections.
New Single-Game Ticket Sales Process
In anticipation of the high demand for tickets, the Hoosiers introduced a new single-game ticket sale process this year. The release of single-game tickets was staggered, first in pre-sale, then as a two-game bundle and finally for single games. According to The Indy Star, part of the motivation for the new ticket sales process was due to the increase in season-ticket sales. This strategic approach aims to maximize revenue while ensuring fair access to tickets for all fans.
The staggered release allows season ticket holders and early purchasers to secure their seats before individual game tickets become available. Bundling tickets for multiple games encourages fans to attend more events, while the eventual release of single-game tickets caters to those with limited availability or specific game preferences.
