Intermountain Health Child Life Internship Opportunities

Intermountain Health offers comprehensive Child Life Internship programs designed to provide aspiring professionals with invaluable hands-on experience and prepare them for successful careers in the field. These internships, adhering to the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) approved curriculum, offer intensive learning and growth opportunities across various hospital settings.

Overview of the Intermountain Health Child Life Internship

The Intermountain Health Child Life Internship offers a robust platform for individuals seeking to immerse themselves in the child life profession. This internship is structured as a 40-hour-per-week commitment, spanning one semester, and meticulously follows the curriculum established by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP). The program is strategically designed to build upon the theoretical knowledge acquired through coursework, enabling students to translate theory into practical application within diverse hospital environments.

Intermountain Health provides Child Life services at eight hospitals. Five of the seven hospitals offer internships; see hospital information below. It is important to note that only one application is needed to apply for all Intermountain hospitals.

A core objective of the internship is to provide an enriched experience across multiple domains, effectively preparing interns for entry-level child life positions. This involves exposing interns to a wide array of scenarios and patient populations, thereby honing their skills and broadening their understanding of the profession.

The internship at Intermountain Health is uncompensated. Furthermore, Intermountain Hospitals offer fall and winter/spring internships but do not offer summer internships.

  • Knowledge and Skill Development: It facilitates the transition from theoretical learning to practical implementation, reinforcing and expanding upon the knowledge and skills acquired through academic coursework.
  • Diverse Hospital Settings: Interns gain exposure to various units and departments within the hospital, providing a comprehensive understanding of the child life profession across different medical specialties.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Throughout the internship, interns receive mentorship and guidance from Certified Child Life Specialists (CCLS), ensuring they receive the support and supervision necessary for professional growth.
  • Professional Preparation: The program is designed to equip interns with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed to excel in entry-level child life positions, enhancing their career prospects in the field.

Application Details

Given the program's popularity and the desire to maintain a high-quality experience for all participants, Intermountain Health has implemented a cap on the number of applications it accepts each semester. The maximum number of applications that we will take each semester is 60.
