Navigating JCTC: A Guide to Student Resources
Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) offers a robust network of resources designed to support students in achieving their academic and personal goals. From addressing basic needs to accessing academic advising and navigating enrollment processes, JCTC strives to empower student success. This guide provides an overview of key resources available to JCTC students.
Addressing Basic Needs: The Hub and Beyond
Recognizing that student success is often intertwined with meeting fundamental needs, JCTC provides several resources to assist students facing challenges. The Hub, with locations on both the Downtown and Southwest campuses, serves as a central point for accessing support related to food, clothing, and hygiene.
The Hub: A Helping Hand
The Hub offers a variety of services aimed at alleviating immediate needs.
- Clothing Closet: Students in need of professional or everyday attire can utilize the Hub's limited clothing closet. To ensure accessibility for all, students are allowed to utilize the clothing closet no more than once a month.
- Hygiene and Cleaning Products: JCTC understands the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and a clean living environment. The Hub can assist students with supplies, which can be requested once every other month. Due to limited availability, students may not receive every item they requested. It is important to note that these items should only be requested out of necessity and/or in emergency situations.
The Hub at the Downtown Campus is run by Johni Ison, MSSW, and Naranda Cloyd. Juanita Cooper manages the Campus location. The Downtown Campus HUB is located in the basement of Chestnut Hall, room B10, at 110 W. Chestnut Street, Louisville, KY 40202. The Campus is located at 1000 Community College Drive, Louisville, KY 40272.
Student Laptop Requests
Recognizing the essential role of technology in modern education, JCTC now manages Student Laptop Requests through the Learning Commons. This change centralizes technology support and access for students.

Academic Advising: Charting Your Course
Navigating college can be complex, and academic advising plays a crucial role in helping students make informed decisions about their academic paths. JCTC offers comprehensive advising services to guide students from enrollment to graduation.
Personalized Guidance
JCTC strongly encourages students to make an appointment for advising due to limited staffing, ensuring that each student receives the individualized attention they deserve.
- Advising By Appointment: This is the preferred method, as it allows advisors to prepare for each meeting and provide tailored guidance.
- Walk-in Advising: While available, walk-in advising may be subject to change due to advisor availability.
Contact Information
The address for advising services is 622 S.
Enrollment and Course Management: Key Information
Understanding enrollment status and managing courses are essential aspects of the college experience. JCTC provides clear guidelines on these processes.
Full-Time vs. Part-Time Enrollment
- Full-Time Enrollment: A full-time student is enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in a semester.
- Part-Time Enrollment: A part-time student is enrolled in less than 12 credit hours in a semester.
Enrollment status can impact financial aid eligibility, as many programs require a minimum number of credit hours per semester for participants to maintain eligibility.

Course Scheduling and Management

- Self-Service or Visual Schedule Building: Students can utilize these online tools to create their class schedules.
- Dropping or Withdrawing from a Course: To drop a course, students must do so by a certain day within the semester. Withdrawing from a course has a larger window of time to request.
