Auditions for Performing Arts Majors

Students wishing to major in Commercial Dance, Musical Theatre, or Theatre must audition either in person or submit audition materials through the acceptd.com platform.

Commercial Dance: Prepare a 2-minute dance piece (modern, ballet, or jazz) with or without music.
Musical Theatre: Perform a short contemporary monologue, two contrasting songs (one up-tempo and one ballad), and 30-60 seconds of any style of dance.

Nursing Program Admission

Current Manhattanville students in another major or students at other institutions can apply to the bachelor’s in nursing program as a transfer at any point. The accelerated format of this nursing program requires applicants to have an adequate introduction to certain subjects. In these prerequisite courses you need to have received a grade of C+ or better and have not failed more than one pre-requisite. Please note that Principles of Human Genetics is not a pre-requisite.

For the science and psychology prerequisite courses, grades must be a C+ or better.
Writing, statistics, and math courses must have a grade of C- or better.

International Student Admissions

Manhattanville University is extremely proud of its long-standing history of having international students as active members of our community. Students from abroad are eligible for admission if they have completed, with good grades, the academic (classical) secondary school program offered in their country. Students transferring from a college or university in another country must also demonstrate an acceptable academic profile.

All applicants who speak or write English as a second language are required to submit either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System.) The minimum score required for consideration is 80 on the internet-based TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS. Official Test results must be sent to Manhattanville University. Information concerning these tests may be obtained directly by logging onto www.ets.org or www.ielts.org.

Students who intend to transfer credits for courses taken at international institutions are required to provide evaluation reports (translated and verified with grade equivalencies) from agencies that prepare Foreign Academic Credential Evaluations (FACES). The evaluation must examine and equate all course work on a “course-by-course” basis and include grading equivalents to US colleges.

Advanced Placement and College Credits

Students who have achieved a grade of 3, 4, or 5 on an Advanced Placement Test of the College Entrance Examination Board may receive anywhere from 3 to 8 credits per test toward their Manhattanville degree. If students wish to use these credits toward fulfillment of major requirements, they should consult with their academic advisor or review the Registrar’s official webpage for equivalencies. Students who have taken college courses while in high school may receive credit if the course is reported on a college transcript at a level of C- or above.

The University will grant six semester hours of credit (for a maximum of 28 credits) for each examination taken at the Advanced (“A”) level of the British General Certificate of Education on which the student received a grade of C or better. Also, six semester hours of credit (for a maximum of 18 credits) will be granted for each Higher Level Examination in the International Baccalaureate Program on which a student has earned a score of 5, 6, or 7.

Students may be granted at the time of matriculation a maximum of 12 semester hours of credit through subject examinations of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP).

Acceptance Rate and Enrollment

In general, Manhattanville University is a non selective school. The school receives about 3,620 applications each year from prospective students. The acceptance rate tends to be 87.34% which is equal about 3,200 students who passed the admission process of the institution. However, when the semester starts, only about 340 or 11% of the applicants who received an acceptance letter from Manhattanville University decide to register. The ratio of the students who submitted their applications is 39% and 60% for males and females respectively. Campus Life and Environment

Manhattanville undergrads seem to pride themselves on the school's "very diverse" community. As one student immediately explains, "I have made friends from all different backgrounds, states, and countries." Just as critically, people here are "willing to embrace different cultures, ethnicities, sexualities and personality types." While a few individuals do note that the "student body is somewhat divided into athletes and non-athletes," others insist that "it's easy to meet people and make friends." By and large, students say their classmates "genuinely care about everyone's well-being" and are "willing to help you when you need." And it's certainly common to encounter a "friendly face" as you walk across campus.

At Manhattanville, there's tons of fun to be had both in and out of the classroom. To begin with, sports are certainly very popular, and you'll find that the "majority of students attend athletic events to support their fellow Valiants." Many people also participate in intramurals for rugby, volleyball and dodgeball (among others). But don't fret if you're not particularly sporty; there are plenty of other ways to get involved, whether that's participating in the active student government, joining the Finance Society, working on the Manhattanville Video Project, or joining a cultural institution like the Latin American Student Association. One particular highlight is the Sister Mary T. Clark Center for Religion and Social Justice, "where students often will go just to be around the positive energy." Additionally, "a cappella and performance opportunities [abound]" and the university sponsors numerous events such as Fall Fest, a family weekend "with rides, food, and plenty of entertainment" as well as Quad Jam, a music festival with "food trucks, student performances, and a headliner performance such as We The Kings and Lupe Fiasco."

Manhattanville College provides scheduled free shuttle transportation via its Valiant Express to limited locations in nearby towns as well as to Grand Central Station in New York City.

Mental Health Support

The Be There Certificate is a free, self-paced learning experience designed to increase mental health literacy and provide you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to safely support anyone who may be struggling with their mental health. Our counselors are licensed mental health professionals that must complete a required amount of continuing education credits every year in order to maintain their license. We have 3 PsyDs, a LMHC, and a MD on staff. All of whom are continuously working to increase their knowledge and skills in the area of college mental health.
