Academic Excellence and Opportunities
The Dean's List
The Dean’s List honors full-time students who achieve at least a 3.6 GPA during a particular semester. To be eligible, students must complete at least fifteen semester hours, with a minimum of twelve hours taken for letter grades.
Castle Scholars Honors Program
The Castle Scholars Honors Program offers students of exceptional ability a broad and intensive program of study. It provides motivated students in any major with challenging, cross-disciplinary courses that encourage their academic and personal growth. The program fosters intellectual exchange among students and faculty, as well as independent initiative in academic and creative realms through a seminar-based core.
Innovative and often interdisciplinary seminars, frequently limited to 15 students to ensure in-depth discussion and exploration of the subject matter, are led by engaged faculty. Experiential learning trips to New York City and other sites in the region are often part of the curriculum. Successful completion of the program is recognized on college transcripts and all printed graduation materials.
Incoming first-year students who have achieved two or more of the program's criteria may be invited to join. Continuing students who have earned at least a 3.6 cumulative GPA at Manhattanville by the end of their second semester are eligible to apply for admission to the program, up to the fall semester of their junior year.

Credit Overload

Grading Policies
Manhattanville's Grading and Grading Policies use standard letter grades. An "F" grade is assigned for Academic or administratively initiated withdrawal while failing or for sanction.

FERPA Proxy Access
Manhattanville University takes student privacy very seriously. Manhattanville's ServiceHub portal allows students to grant FERPA Proxy Access, which requires authorization from the student.
Access to University Records Under FERPA
Students have the right to access their University records under FERPA (via an existing FERPA waiver on file). Students wishing to inspect their education records should make a written request to the person in charge of the records. The University will advise the student of the time and place where the records may be inspected, and the inspection session begins. No photocopies may be requested or made by the student during the inspection.
If a student believes that their education records are inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of their privacy rights, they may ask the University to amend them. The University will notify the student of the decision and advise the student of their right to a hearing if the request is denied. The student may present evidence relevant to the request at the hearing, and may be assisted or represented by individuals of their choice at their own expense, including an attorney. The hearing panel will prepare a written decision based solely on the evidence presented at the hearing and will include a summary of the evidence and the reasons for the decision.
If the decision is unsatisfactory, the student has the right to place a statement in their education record commenting on the information in the record or stating their reasons for disagreeing with the decision. The statement will be maintained as part of the student’s education record and will accompany it whenever the contested portion of the record is disclosed.
Withdrawal Policies
Students may not withdraw below 12 credits without an appeal. Appeals to withdraw below 12 credits will only be considered for extraordinary reasons (e.g., illness or death in the family). All appeals must be accompanied with appropriate documentation and signatures.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Manhattanville University offers various financial aid options to help students finance their education.
Federal Pell Grant
A Federal Pell Grant (Pell) does not have to be repaid and is usually awarded only to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s degree. The U.S. Department of Education uses federal methodology to determine eligibility.
TEACH Grant
The federal government also offers the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant to students who are completing or plan to complete coursework needed to begin a career in teaching. Recipients must meet certain academic achievement requirements, and sign a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve.
Direct Unsubsidized Loan
Eligible students can also apply for a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, which must be repaid with interest. Loan amounts are determined by subtracting the student's Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the cost of attendance.
Loan Disbursement and Fees
Federal student loans are disbursed each semester, and the federal government charges an origination fee for each student loan. These fees are deducted from each semester’s check to the school. Important: To qualify under this grandfathering provision, the loan must be fully disbursed (not merely certified) prior to July 1, 2026.
NYS State Aid (TAP, ETA, and Dreamer)
NY state residents may be eligible for NYS State aid, including TAP, ETA, and Dreamer. TAP is a grant and does not have to be paid back. To be eligible for NYS TAP, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits and have a minimum GPA, among other requirements.
Private Loan Options
Some families may need further assistance and choose a private loan product. Manhattanville encourages students to exhaust all federal loan options prior to taking out any private education loan. The university provides a list of lenders but does not endorse or recommend any particular lenders.
Sister Mary T. Clark Community Service Award
Participants in the Sister Mary T. Clark Community Service Award Program enhance their leadership skills into opportunities.

Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL)

Such requests must be submitted through the Student Health Portal and must provide documentation from a physician.

Emotional Support Animals
Students requesting to keep an emotional support animal in their housing assignment must provide documentation and follow the university's policies. The animal must be in a secure carrier when transported through campus, and dogs must be leashed. Cages must be appropriate for the size of the animal, with a maximum cage size of 40" BTU and no larger. All electrical devices must be checked and approved for safety.
Ellucian Colleague and Budget Management
Manhattanville College was recognized as one of the 2023 Impact Award winners for its use of Ellucian Colleague. Their use of Ellucian Colleague expanded to include the Self-Service Finance Management Budget Development Module, facilitating streamlined processes for budget requests through a central location.
Streamlined Budgeting and Forecasting
With the Budget Development Module, Manhattanville has streamlined its budget request and development processes by hosting all necessary information in one user-friendly location with intuitive, role-based access. Now, all departmental budget administrators are using the same tool and formatting, while adhering to a single timeline. Information can also be seen as soon as the data is entered, eliminating previous delays. As a result, the budget office can pull data, build reports, and analyze information significantly faster than before.
Filling Gaps and Reducing Errors
The ability to compare current to past budget requests has enabled the budget office to catch large unbudgeted items that may have been overlooked by their respective departments. In Fiscal Year 2022, uploading Manhattanville's operating budget took several days, primarily due to troubleshooting information errors. In 2023, uploading the new fiscal year operating base budget into Colleague took no more than 20 minutes without any errors.
Data as the Key to Unlock New Savings
The Budget Development Module also provided a straightforward and efficient way to implement what’s called “zero-based budgeting” for the first time. Given easy access to all the necessary information, including prior year-to-date actuals, departmental budget administrators can easily make data-backed requests with detailed justifications. With more granular information, the budget office can efficiently validate the need, confirm calculations, and keep requests within the overarching budget parameters for the fiscal year, while also isolating trends to identify savings opportunities. Manhattanville’s implementation of zero-based budgeting has uncovered over $2 million in cost savings while developing and reviewing the Fiscal Year 2023 budget.
