Marquette University Core Curriculum (MCC)
The structure and content of the Marquette University Core Curriculum (MCC) consists of three course tiers: the foundations, discovery, and culminating tiers. For transfer students, the number of credits required in the MCC will be based on the number of approved transfer credits earned by a student (excluding test credits). - MCC Transfer Level: A student’s placement in one of the MCC transfer levels is based on the number of transferable credits awarded. The transfer credit level is determined by review of the official transcript(s) received and credit awarded for up to 30 days after the start of classes in the first term of enrollment at Marquette.*Writing Intensive Requirement (WRIT) - Students must complete a course that is designated "WRIT." This requirement can be completed via one of their four Discovery Tier courses or through other degree requirements.
*The Discovery Tier courses required of new freshmen who did not earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree while in high school and any transfer students with fewer than 24 transfer credits consists of courses completed within a single theme. For this reason, we do not recommend scheduling courses prior to enrolling at Marquette with the intention of fulfilling Discovery Tier requirements. Additional Discovery Tier notes: Discovery Tier course requirements may be completed through degree requirements (i.e. Credits awarded through AP, IB or CLEP examinations may fulfill degree requirements, but are not included among the transfer level determination.To submit official test score results that may satisfy degree (but not MCC) requirements, please have the testing agency send scores directly to Marquette. The Career Center provides a broad range of career-related services to all Marquette University undergraduate students, graduate students, and alumni.
- Handshake: Begin your career exploration with Handshake, an interactive career platform, which gains you access to resources, job postings, and online appointments with career professionals.
- Career Exploration Appointments: Career exploration appointments are offered via telephone for all online students. If you plan to be on campus, set an in-person appointment. Make an appointment by logging into Handshake, select Career Center along the top navigation, and choose appointments to schedule an appointment.

CheckMarq
CheckMarq is the student information system that you will use to register for classes, view class schedules, grades, and transcripts, as well as access financial and other academic information. The Student Guide to CheckMarq provides instructions to login and navigate CheckMarq.
CheckMarq Student Home is intuitive and mobile friendly. It’s designed to be used on all types of devices such as smart phones, tablets, laptops and desktops.
- To Do List: Submit required Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Loan Accounts and pre-registration required actions or documents.
- Holds: View details regarding holds impacting registration and/or transcripts.
- View Communications: View both read/unread communications from university offices.
- Forms: Complete and view select academic forms. ex.
- Account Activity: Official account history and voter ID fee statement.
- FAFSA Information: View FAFSA filing information.
- Financial Aid Guide: Resource page with Consumer Information.
- My Planner: Use to create a term-by-term academic plan. Use My Academics tab to view your advisement report, transfer credits, unofficial transcripts, obtain enrollment verifications and apply for graduation. Find navigation steps for common tasks in Student Home.
Desire2Learn (D2L)
Desire2Learn (D2L) is your connection to online courses at Marquette. D2L is not available to new students until the first day of classes - unless your instructor chose to grant early access. Marquette's e-Learning application Desire2Learn (D2L) is a web-based tool, which facilitates and supports online education. Each course at Marquette has its own D2L course site with facilities for interactive communication, secure submission of student assignments to faculty, and online quizzes. Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides access to online resources restricted for campus use only.
Personal Menu
Personal menu (profile picture): Edit personal settings which includes role change, profile, notifications, account settings, and language preference (English only is available at this time). If needed, you can change the time zone under Account Settings > Account Settings tab. My Courses widget lists all courses for each term. Pinning allows the course name to be moved up the list.

If you’re hungry or looking for a place to hang out, head to the Milwaukee Public Market. Grab a coffee between classes at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co. or snack on a homemade “cakesicle” from C. Adam’s Bakery. Upstairs seating at the market gives students a spot to relax, catch up on homework, and hang out with friends - all while watching the hustle and bustle of the market below.
Milwaukee’s lakefront is one of the city’s best features, and it’s perfect for students looking to get outside and appreciate the warm weather. Consider taking a stroll with some friends along the Riverwalk. On colder days, head to McKinley Beach, grab a blanket, and have a picnic with friends. For warmer months, consider heading to Bradford Beach to join a volleyball game.
Fiserv Forum is home of the Marquette men’s basketball team. Sports fans should check out Fiserv Forum, home of the Milwaukee Bucks. Students can take advantage of discounted student tickets for NBA games, preseason matchups, and concerts. The venue also hosts wrestling, comedy shows, and other special events. Even if sports aren’t your thing, the forum still has plenty to offer. Bring some friends and check out the Deer District Plaza.
