Messiah University Athletics: A Holistic Approach to Sports and Development
Messiah University's athletic programs stand out for their commitment to developing the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. Beyond the pursuit of athletic excellence, the university emphasizes character development, spiritual growth, and service to others. This holistic approach permeates all aspects of athletics, creating a unique and enriching experience for student-athletes.
Integrating Faith and Athletics
At Messiah University, athletics are viewed as more than just a competition; they are seen as a ministry. Messiah's Sports Ministry, AROMA (A Revolution of Missional Athletes) aims to transform lives and spread the gospel through the universal language of sports. It spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him. This commitment to faith integration is evident in the emphasis on spiritual growth and the development of character alongside athletic skills. As the team manager for the Messiah Women's Basketball team shares, "Through this experience and opportunity I have met my best friends, developed a closer relationship with God and made some truly amazing memories here at Messiah. This team and program has been an amazing part of my experience at Messiah."
Prioritizing the Well-being of Athletes
Messiah University places a high priority on the physical and psychological well-being of each participant. In the context of team camaraderie, the physical and psychological well-being of each participant is affirmed. This commitment extends beyond the field, with resources and support systems in place to help athletes thrive both on and off the field.
Sportsmanship and Fair Play
While Messiah sets standards for excellence in Division III intercollegiate athletic programs, we also encourage development of the whole person through sports. At Messiah, principles of sportsmanship and fair play take precedence over the results of athletic contests. This emphasis on ethical conduct reflects the university's commitment to developing well-rounded individuals who are not only skilled athletes but also responsible citizens. This means that person, character and faith development are of great importance to the coaches.
