A Historical Overview
The Rockville Campus first opened its doors in 1965, accommodating an initial cohort of 2,489 students. Over the years, the campus has grown significantly, expanding its academic offerings and infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the community. Today, in addition to students enrolled in credit courses, the campus also serves students in Workforce Development & Continuing Education courses. Community members actively participate in special events open to the public, as well as educational and athletic offerings, further solidifying the campus's role as a vital community resource.

Campus Center (CC): A central hub for student life, the Campus Center houses the Montgomery College Rockville Campus Bookstore, CaféMC, dining rooms, MBI Café, and MC Copies (graphics and copy shop). Students may purchase course materials online by visiting Slingshot’s student portal and logging in with MyMC ID and password.

Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education (GU): This state-of-the-art technical training facility offers instructional programs in four primary areas: automotive technology, building and construction technology, and workforce technologies.
Music Building (MU): Dedicated to the performing arts, the Music Building features a recital hall, a rehearsal hall, practice rooms, studios, an ear-training laboratory, specialized classrooms, and faculty offices.
Physical Education Center (PE): Promoting health and wellness, the Physical Education Center includes two all-purpose gymnasiums, a swimming pool with a separate diving area, an apparatus room, a weight room, dance studios, locker and shower facilities, classrooms, and faculty offices.
Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center (PA): This 500-seat theatre serves as a venue for both campus productions and community performances. Its design includes 38 line sets, a greenroom, a Bayreuth pit, a lobby gallery, dressing rooms with showers, and a box office. Science Center (SC): A hub for STEM education, the Science Center houses the department of biology on the first and second floors, chemistry on the third floor, and physics, engineering, and geosciences on the fourth floor. The rooftop has an astronomy observatory and a greenhouse. The Science Center is also home to an outdoor classroom.

Science Center West Building (SW): Adjacent to the Science Center, this building offers classrooms, mathematics labs, an auditorium, and the Judy E. Ackerman STEM Learning Center.
Technical Center (TC): This building contains facilities for career-oriented programs including applied geography, architectural technology, computer-aided design and graphics, construction management, graphic arts, interior design, photography, and television.

By Car:
- From the north: Take I-270 South to Exit 6 (Route 28), W. Montgomery Ave./Rockville. Then take Exit 6A (Route 28) East. Turn left at the first traffic light onto Nelson Street. Go to the first traffic light at Mannakee Street; turn left.
- From the south: Take I-495 to I-270 North exit 6A (Route 28, W. Montgomery Avenue/Rockville). Follow the Montgomery College sign through the traffic light (road becomes Nelson Street). Go to the first traffic light at Mannakee Street; turn left. A valid Montgomery College parking permit is required.
By Bus:
- The campus is served by both Ride On Bus and Metrobus routes with connections to Metrorail.
Student Resources and Support Services
Montgomery College provides a comprehensive range of resources and support services to help students succeed academically and personally. These services include:
Raptor Central: Serves as a central point of contact for student services.
Library Services: The library offers a wealth of resources, including books, journals, databases, and streaming media, to assist with coursework. Librarians provide research assistance in person at the reference desk, and by appointment, either online or on Zoom. The library also offers equipment for use in the library, for easy video creation. Student use of these services takes priority. The Library’s print collections cover all disciplines.
Online Learning Resources: Many MC courses utilize online instruction, offering both structure and flexibility. Online courses meet the same learning objectives as on-campus offerings. Students may complete assignments without coming to campus, although some courses may require on-site activities such as orientation sessions or proctored exams.
Alert System: Montgomery College utilizes an alert system to communicate important information to students and staff in the event of an emergency or campus closure. Montgomery College ALERT and Montgomery College Emergency Desktop Notification can be used to determine if a class will meet.

Child Care Center
The Rockville Campus also houses a Child Care Center for children from three to five years of age. The program focuses on young learners in social-emotional development and academic enrichment. The center is an amazing program for your child to learn and grow, and a member of the International Association of Lab Schools. The center also provides a location for child development for student teachers and faculty. The Child Care Center is available for MC employees and the community.
