Nansemond-Suffolk Academy: Investing in Your Child's Future

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (NSA) is a co-educational private day school located in Virginia, offering a comprehensive educational experience from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. More than just a school, NSA prides itself on being a supportive and inclusive community, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to embrace challenges, discover their passions, and build meaningful connections. The school's motto, "Honor Above All," serves as the foundation for its character education, instilling virtues of responsibility, respect, compassion, and honor.

A Community of Engagement and Inspiration

NSA's environment is designed for those who see challenges as opportunities and find joy in learning new skills. The faculty and staff embrace their responsibility as role models in setting high standards of character. The NSA experience inspires students to pursue their passions, discover their strengths, and build meaningful connections. From academics to athletics to the arts, students find classmates-plus teachers, coaches, and advisors-who challenge them to take their ideas to the next level, who support them when they’re in doubt, and who cheer them on when they confront their biggest obstacles. It’s this kind of community that helps students feel confident stepping outside of their comfort zones and taking the positive risks they need to become their best selves.

One faculty member noted, "I love the enthusiasm and excitement for learning that our students bring to the classroom every day. Their passion motivates me to be a better teacher and pushes me to find new ways to make my lessons engaging and inspiring. Teachers are supported by the administration to pursue professional development opportunities and are continually encouraged to grow our teaching craft. My amazing coworkers offer a strong support system both in and out of the classroom."

Another faculty member, who was also an NSA student for 14 years, shared, "Very few people are lucky enough to have a job that makes them feel supported, challenged and fulfilled every day. NSA is a place where kindness, inclusiveness and integrity are the norm and where community and school spirit extend far beyond pep rallies."

The sense of community is palpable, with everyone provided with the tools needed to succeed and encouraged to be the absolute best they can be. As one community member put it, "There is a certain energy that you can feel as soon as you step on campus, and it continues in the classroom and on the playing fields."

The school offers need-based tuition assistance to families to reduce the cost of tuition. They are awarded solely on the basis of need, which is defined as the difference between the tuition rate for a student and the family’s ability to pay that rate.

In order to determine a family’s ability to pay, the school uses an independent service, School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS), through the National Association of Independent Schools. More than 2,400 schools subscribe to SSS for objective, third party financial needs assessment to determine a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses.

To apply for tuition assistance, families must complete the Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) through SSS and select the NSA school code, 5263. The "Easy Apply" pathway is recommended, allowing families to provide consent for direct access to their IRS data and documents, streamlining the application process. A $60 non-refundable fee is required to submit the application.

Returning families interested in tuition assistance for the 26-27 academic year are strongly encouraged to submit their tuition assistance application to SSS no later than the 26-27 re-enrollment contract due date of March 12, 2026 for returning families or no later than April 15, 2026.

The average financial aid grant is $6,436.
