Key Roles within University Housing
- Community Assistant: While the specific role and pay may vary, this position generally involves supporting residents and fostering a positive community environment. If you’re interested in working as a community assistant during both the summer and academic year, you’ll need to apply for each position separately. Each role comes with its own employment dates and terms and it’s your responsibility to review, understand, and agree to those expectations before accepting the position. When you apply, you’ll only interview once and that interview will be used to determine your eligibility and fit for both summer and academic year positions.
- Lead Community Assistant: This is a leadership role that builds upon the responsibilities of a Community Assistant.
- Facilities Assistant: The facilities assistant supports University Housing’s mechanics and trade groups in maintaining, repairing, and improving the facilities within NC State’s residential communities. The position fulfills these responsibilities by completing manual and physical tasks to support University Housing’s operational needs, renovation, and facility improvement projects.
- Guest Services Porter: This position contributes to a positive guest experience by preparing apartments and spaces for occupancy, assisting with laundry and linens, and supporting office and hospitality functions. The guest services porter is compensated at an hourly rate of $14.00. The guest services porter provides excellent customer service and assists with managing guest housing and conference services. This position ensures spaces are ready for occupancy between guests.
- Housing Ambassador: Housing ambassadors serve as student assistants for University Housing’s central office. They possess knowledge of and uphold University policies, rules, and regulations; and demonstrate flexibility with a willingness to adapt as the needs of a situation evolve. Through their familiarity of University Housing and the University, they are able to assist residents, families, staff, and guests navigate Housing processes and refer to campus resources as necessary. - Village Mentor: NC State’s village mentors connect residents with living and learning village experiences. - Conference Ambassador: The conference ambassador position is dynamic, with key responsibilities to support NC State’s conferences, orientation, and outreach events for over 11,000 guests. Working on a team and individually, conference ambassadors support guests, complete guest-facing hospitality support, and perform behind-the-scenes tasks, including preparing buildings, supporting key management, and assisting guests in accessing NC State information and resources. All conference ambassadors will work with various guests representing academic, athletic, and theme camps, including those involving minors. All conference ambassadors are compensated $14 per hour, and students identified as lead conference ambassadors are compensated $16 per hour. - Orientation Ambassador: The housing orientation ambassador position supports NC State’s orientation housing operations. Students in this position work on a team and individually.
