Greater Newburyport Adult & Community Education (GNACE) stands as an independent, self-supporting community program dedicated to promoting lifelong learning for adults of all ages. Operating under the auspices of the Newburyport Public School System, GNACE offers a diverse range of educational opportunities to individuals seeking personal enrichment, academic advancement, and professional development.
A Self-Supporting Program
GNACE is a fully self-supporting program, meaning that its budget is primarily funded from course fees. Additional funding is made available from grants and individual donors. While operating under the auspices of the Newburyport Public School system, GNACE receives no tax dollars. This financial independence allows GNACE to be responsive to the needs of the community and offer a wide array of courses.
Open to Everyone, Everywhere
GNACE welcomes participants from all walks of life. You do not need to live or work in Newburyport to take classes or teach. All are welcome! Participants of any class may be as young as 15 years old. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone has access to quality educational opportunities.
Diverse Course Offerings
GNACE offers a wide array of courses designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of the community, including:
- Personal Enrichment Classes: These classes cover a wide range of topics, such as arts and crafts, cooking, fitness, and personal finance. They provide opportunities for individuals to explore new interests, develop new skills, and enhance their quality of life.
- Academic Classes: GNACE offers academic classes for adults who wish to improve their basic skills, earn a high school diploma, or prepare for college. These classes include GED preparation, adult basic education (ABE), and English as a Second Language (ESL).
- SAT Preparation: GNACE offers SAT preparation courses to help students prepare for the SAT exam. These courses cover all aspects of the SAT, including math, reading, and writing.
- English for Non-English Speakers: GNACE offers English classes for non-English speakers who wish to improve their English language skills. These classes are designed to help students develop the skills they need to communicate effectively in English.
- Language Classes for Employers: GNACE can provide language classes for employers, including Spanish. These classes are designed to help employees communicate more effectively with customers and colleagues who speak other languages.
