Athletics

Nichols College Athletics, known as the Bison, offers a variety of sports for men and women, as well as coeducational ones. The Bison compete within the NCAA Division III, emphasizing the importance of athletics on the participants rather than on the spectators, and since 1995, have been a member of the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The men's volleyball team plays within the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). In terms of club sports, the club golf team competes in the National Collegiate Club Golf Association (NCCGA), the men's rugby team is part of the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU).

The college sponsors 22 teams at the NCAA Division III (non-scholarship) level, 20 of which compete in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while men's volleyball is a member of the New England Volleyball Conference (NEVC). Esports competes in the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) while varsity cheerleading is independent of a conference.

Currently, the school offers eleven men's sports: baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. There are also ten women's sports: basketball, cross country, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Both men's and women's teams have won numerous CCC championships. The men's tennis squad won eight consecutive titles through the 2011-2012 to 2018-2019 seasons, and the women's team has won four titles in 2010-2011, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019. The men's basketball team claimed three consecutive titles from 2016 to 2017 through 2018-2019, and the men's hockey team was victorious in 2017-2018. Men's soccer has won two titles in 2010 and 2014, and the women won three times, namely in 1996 and 2002. The women's field hockey team also lifted a trophy in 2009.

Nichols College athletics provide competitive environments ideal for students striving to be successful leaders-on and off the field. Varsity sports complement what students learn in the classroom and provide experiences that teach the process for planning, practice and execution of personal and team goals. While Club and Intramural sports provide any student the opportunity to play the sport that they love. Accreditation and Affiliations

Nichols College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). It is also affiliated with the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts (HECCMA) and the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM). The college was accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education in 2005. Since 1961, Nichols College has run the Alpha Pi chapter of the Delta Mu Delta honor society for business programs.

A History of Growth and Adaptation

Nichols College has a rich history, evolving from Nichols Academy to a leading business college. Founded in 1815, Nichols Academy served as a Universalist education center. After a period of decline, James L. Conrad established Nichols Junior College of Business Administration and Executive Training in 1931. Initially a men-only junior college, it became a four-year college in 1958 and gained the authority to grant Bachelor of Business Administration degrees. In 1971, Nichols became co-educational and expanded its degree offerings to include Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. The college introduced its Master of Business Administration program in 1974.
