Orange Coast College: A Comprehensive Registration Guide
Navigating the college registration process can seem daunting, but Orange Coast College (OCC) strives to make it as convenient and easy as possible. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the registration process, from initial application to enrollment in classes.
Admission and Initial Steps
New cohorts of students are admitted each new academic year, starting in the fall semester. The first step you must complete is to apply to OCC. You will need to create an OpenCCC account to access and complete the application. If you need help applying to the college, the Future Pirate team is here to help.
First-Time College Students
A first-time college student is defined as a new college student who has neither attempted nor taken any college courses following their graduation from high school.
Pirates' Promise Program
Students who meet the eligibility criteria need to complete the sign-up process to be considered for the Pirates' Promise cohort. Students must fill out the Pirates' Promise Interest Form. Students will be notified that they are part of the 2026-27 cohort once eligibility has been reviewed. Cohorts are limited in size based on the availability of funding. Students in the cohort will then need to meet all the program requirements to keep their spot in the program.
Assessment and Counseling
All students have access and may register for the first transfer-level courses in English and mathematics. New students will complete the assessment process in order to receive appropriate placement into English and Mathematics courses. This process may include submission of a transcript (to determine Math and English course placement) or self-reporting of high school GPA (if no transcripts are available).

In addition, new students should schedule an appointment to meet with a counselor to create a Student Education Plan (SEP) and verify their program of study (major).
Registration Process
These activities are followed by the actual registration process: signing up for classes and paying fees online using MyCoast.
Registration Appointments
Registration appointments are assigned a few weeks before registration begins. To find your registration appointment, log in to your MyCoast portal, click on the "Registration" tab, then under the Registration Tools table, click on "Check Registration Status & Date". Your registration appointment is NOT a physical appointment for which you must appear on campus. Rather, it is the earliest possible date and time that you can register online for a given semester.
Unit Limits
No OCC student may carry more than 19 units during a semester, 10 units during Summer or 6 units during Winter, without the permission of the OCC Dean of Counseling.
Allied Health Career Programs
If a choice of a major is any one of the many allied health career programs, students must participate in a special admission process, in addition to the activities described above.
