Oregon Institute of Technology: Programs and Admission Requirements
Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) offers a range of degree programs for students of all backgrounds, from recent high school graduates to transfer students. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Oregon Tech's programs and admission requirements, including GPA and standardized test score considerations, application deadlines, and specific requirements for international students and certain specialized programs.
General Admission Requirements
Oregon Tech has a nearly open admissions policy with an acceptance rate of 95%. This means that the university admits nearly all students who apply, making it crucial for prospective students to understand the key factors that influence admission decisions.
GPA Requirements
GPA is a very important academic factor for officials at Oregon Institute of Technology. The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need for a real chance of getting in. Oregon Tech requires you to be around average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, and very few C's. If you have a lower GPA, you can compensate with harder courses like AP or IB classes.
The GPA ranges for admitted students are as follows:
- 3.75+: 37%
- 3.50-3.74: 27%
- 3.25-3.49: 15%
- 3.00-3.24: 12%
- 2.50-2.99: 9%
- 2.00-2.49: 1%
- Below 2.00: Not available
Standardized Testing
Oregon Institute of Technology hasn't explicitly named a policy on SAT/ACT requirements, but because it's published average SAT or ACT scores (we'll cover this next), it's likely test flexible. Typically, these schools say, "if you feel your SAT or ACT score represents you well as a student, submit them. Despite this policy, the truth is that most students still take the SAT or ACT, and most applicants to Oregon Institute of Technology will submit their scores. If you don't submit scores, you'll have one fewer dimension to show that you're worthy of being admitted, compared to other students.

Oregon Institute of Technology considers the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section optional and may not include it as part of their admissions consideration.
SAT Scores
The 25th percentile SAT score is 1010, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1250. Half the applicants admitted to Oregon Institute of Technology who submitted test scores have an SAT score between 1000 and 1270. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.
ACT Scores
The average ACT score at Oregon Institute of Technology is 23. The 25th percentile ACT score is 18, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 27. Half the applicants admitted to Oregon Institute of Technology who submitted test scores have an ACT score between 18 and 27. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.
When you send ACT scores to colleges, you have absolute control over which tests you send. You could take 10 tests, and only send your highest one. This means that you have more chances than you think to improve your ACT score. To try to aim for the school's ACT requirement of 18 and above, you should try to take the ACT as many times as you can.
By and large, most colleges do not superscore the ACT. (Superscore means that the school takes your best section scores from all the test dates you submit, and then combines them into the best possible composite score).
