Allison: A Journey from Adversity to Advocacy in Speech-Language Pathology

Originally from San Diego, California, Allison’s journey into the world of speech-language pathology is deeply personal and profoundly inspiring. In her video submission, Allison shared the life-altering experience that shaped her academic and professional goals. In 2020, while participating in a community service event, she suffered a traumatic brain injury that disrupted nearly every aspect of her life. Fortunately, Allison made a full recovery. Upon returning to her undergraduate program at Brigham Young University, however, she decided to dedicate her life to helping others who face similar challenges. Her passion for communication sciences grew through hands-on research involving language accessibility for people with aphasia.

Allison’s future goals are both compassionate and ambitious. She plans to begin her career as a speech-language pathologist, working with individuals who have adult neurogenic communication disorders.

This $1,000 scholarship will help Allison pursue that vision. From funding essential materials to easing the financial pressures of graduate school, we are honored to play a small part in her extraordinary journey. In her words: “I am so grateful to be awarded this scholarship. It will help alleviate some of the financial stress of graduate school, allowing me to focus better on gaining knowledge and clinical skills to serve those with communication disorders."

Allison’s story is a moving reminder that challenges can lead to purpose, and that those who overcome adversity often go on to uplift others. We are thrilled to support Allison as she works toward becoming a leader in speech-language pathology and academic research. Congratulations, Allison.

Alexis: A Champion for Marginalized Communities Through Law and Policy

Alexis is a student at George Mason University, Class of 2027, where she is pursuing a degree in International Security and Law on a pre-law track. Hailing from Virginia Beach, VA, Alexis has long demonstrated a deep commitment to civic engagement, leadership, and community empowerment. In her video submission, Alexis spoke with thoughtful conviction about her drive to use law and policy to elevate the voices of marginalized communities - particularly those impacted by conflict, systemic injustice, and displacement.

What stood out most about Alexis’s story was her clarity of purpose. She sees the law not just as a career path, but as a tool for healing, accountability, and structural change. Whether it’s protecting civil liberties, supporting refugees, or reforming broken institutions, Alexis is determined to be a force for good. “For me, this scholarship is more than financial support,” Alexis shared.

Courtney Evans: Overcoming Adversity with Tireless Work Ethic and Positivity

Congratulations to Courtney Evans, the winner of the 2024 Pond Lehocky Giordano Annual Scholarship! Courtney was chosen due to her tireless work ethic, devotion to her family, and steadfast positivity. In 2022, Courtney’s father suffered a tear of his rotator cuff at work. The injury led to costly medical expenses and loss of income as he underwent surgery and a lengthy physical rehabilitation. Courtney also has three siblings, one of whom is special needs. She will be enrolling in Stetson University in Fall 2024, where she intends to major in marketing. We wish her the best of luck, though we know she will hardly need it, given her academic prowess and outstanding work ethic.

Nicholas Enoch: Selflessness and Dedication to Family

Nicholas Enoch was awarded the 2023 Pond Lehocky Giordano Annual Scholarship because of his selflessness and unwavering dedication to his family. When his father suffered a traumatic brain injury and hearing loss in a workplace accident, Nicholas, along with his three siblings and mother, faced immense challenges. Nicholas displayed exceptional courage and strength, stepping up to care for his father and taking on additional responsibilities around the house. To better support his family during this difficult time, Nicholas made the tough decision to give up his lacrosse scholarship at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina. Nicholas’s dedication to his family’s well-being is truly inspiring, and his actions exemplify the values of empathy, sacrifice, and perseverance.

Pond Lehocky Giordano's Commitment to Community

Pond Lehocky Giordano also understands that fighting for the hard-working members of our community is a privilege. With that privilege comes a professional and moral duty to give back to the community. Pond Lehocky Giordano has made education a key focus of its charitable efforts. Samuel H. Pond and Jerry M. Lehocky, both former students at Temple University Law School, have been giving back to law students each year with their annual scholarship. Pond Lehocky Giordano partnered with Kids’ Chance of PA, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to children of seriously injured workers or workers who were killed. Paying for college isn’t easy, especially for families affected by loss.

At Pond Lehocky Giordano, our mission extends far beyond the courtroom. Every day, we advocate for the injured, the disabled, and the voiceless - those who are often overlooked or ignored. Service: Being a leader in the community ultimately means being a good neighbor. Our attorneys and staff come from diverse backgrounds and understand firsthand the power of education and opportunity. Our annual 25 Days of Giving serves as the best example of our charitable ethos.
