Grade reports are not accepted; the transcript must be comprehensive, displaying the student's name, school name, grades, and credit hours for each course and term. If SAT or ACT test scores are relevant but not listed on the high school transcript, a separate copy of the test score report is usually required.

2. Pathway to Opportunity Scholarship

Approximately 30% of award funds will be earmarked for students pursuing a 2-year degree and students pursuing a certificate. Selection of recipients is made solely by Scholarship America. Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Pathway to Opportunity Scholarship. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

3. The Essential Visionaries Scholarship Fund

This fund offers renewable scholarships to students pursuing degrees or certificates in education, counseling, psychology, or nursing through college or vocational school programs. If selected as a recipient, students attending vocational-technical or two-year institutions will receive an award of up to $5,000; students attending four-year institutions will receive an award of up to $10,000.

5. Scholarship America Dream Award

The Dream Award is Scholarship America’s renewable scholarship program for financially needy students who have overcome barriers and have successfully started their college education. Awards were made to students selected from across the nation who are entering their second year or higher of education beyond high school; the scholarships are both renewable and increase in amount each year. Scholarship America provides Dream Awards ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 based on the individual student’s financial need. Dream Award scholarships include general scholarships, STEM-specific scholarships (for study in science, technology, engineering and math-related majors), the World Journal Dream Award Scholarship for Chinese American students and the Midwest Scholars Dream Award for students in eligible states. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations and unusual personal or family circumstances that demonstrate the student has overcome barriers to success, and an outside appraisal. An external selection committee comprised of educators and community leaders will select recipients. If you do not receive the award, you may reapply each year as long as you continue to meet the eligibility requirements. A deferral of up to one year may be granted for any reason.

6. Wellroot Family Services Scholarships

Additional eligibility requirement: Must be a Wellroot Family Services (formerly UMCH) resident. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Wellroot Family Services play a part in the selection.

Application Process and Timeline

The application process for Scholarship America programs generally involves submitting an online application through the Scholarship America Student Hub. For example, applications for the 2026-2027 school year can be submitted online through the Scholarship America Hub from April 8 through May 11, 2026. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 11, 2026, at 4:00 pm EST. Eastern Time on May 11, 2026. Applicants should click “Apply Now” above, to go to the Scholarship America Hub to create an account.
