About Sonshine Preschool

Sonshine Preschool is a weekday ministry of a church, offering classes for children aged two through five years old. The program operates from September through May, with hours from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, and generally aligns with the local school system calendar. With over 40 years of service to the community, Sonshine Preschool is committed to providing a rich environment with a wide range of stimulating activities which nurture the child spiritually, cognitively, socially, physically, and emotionally.

Philosophy and Curriculum

Sonshine Preschool believes children are a gift of God, created in His image, and they grow in knowledge and stature. Recognizing the preschool years as a critical time for development, the school is committed to providing a rich environment with a wide range of stimulating activities which nurture the child spiritually, cognitively, socially, physically, and emotionally. The school emphasizes active hands-on and play-based learning. Play is a child’s work and is how a child learns best about his/her world.

All methods and curriculum are taught using developmentally appropriate practices (DAP). The learning environment allows children to feel a sense of wonder and curiosity. Methods such as exploration, manipulation of objects, physical play, and dramatic play are the primary ways of reaching educational goals.

The curriculum incorporates various elements:
